Laboratory Corporation of America Director, Talent Acquisition - Labs in Durham, North Carolina

The Director of Talent Acquisition leads the recruiting team dedicated to the labs in the Diagnostics segment as well as the Central Lab Services within Drug Development. The talent segments recruited for include professional, medical/scientific and university, supporting a diverse range of clients worldwide. The Director collaborates with business leaders and HR colleagues to understand the business unit strategies and translate them to talent acquisition solutions aligned with business unit objectives.

The role entails team leadership, financial management, client relationship management, and vendor/partner relations. In partnership with client business leaders, their teams and HR leadership, the Director is responsible for the delivery of talent acquisition services across the portfolio of business, focused on:

  • Developing and implementing strategies to source, recruit and select a highly-qualified, diverse workforce;

  • Designing and executing processes that creates positive and engaging hiring manager and candidate experiences to advance Covance as an employer of choice;

  • Directing operational recruiting activities.

Recruiting results are achieved by leveraging a scalable recruiting team to build a foundation of global talent. The Director influences attraction and selection decisions through demonstrated business acumen, organizational knowledge, and deep expertise of the labor market. The Director manages a team of internal and external recruiting resources based in multiple locations.

The Director is a member of the extended GTA Leadership Team.

  • Lead the team which hires, leads and develops team of sourcers, recruiters and coordinators delivering service to the business. Ensures team is knowledgeable, skilled and engaged; provides the tools and information needed to be successful; establishes and effectively communicates standards and objectives; drives accountability for results; provides feedback and recognition.

  • Provide strategic direction, operational leadership and staffing expertise on sourcing/recruiting. Advise and educate senior management and clients on workforce planning, staffing, sourcing, and recruiting initiatives.

  • Drives GTA strategic framework and established priorities for the function.

  • Provide overall direction and management for recruiting strategy, guidelines and procedures concerning staffing best practices, systems, and methodology. Serve as a talent advisor and deliver effective sourcing solutions to meet business needs.

  • Ensure recruiting compliance with all applicable laws and AA/EEO programs for assigned client areas.

  • Conduct regular reviews with senior management to highlight recruiting successes and challenges, performance against metrics, diversity efforts, satisfaction survey results, and critical projects.

  • Direct prioritization of recruiting resources to collaborate closely with regional and business unit HR teams in delivering specific recruiting campaigns.

  • Develop recruiting goals and strategies for the company and hold leadership accountable for their respective roles in recruiting and selection.

  • Drive the development of recruitment branding and marketing strategies in partnership with the Marketing and Branding function within the Recruiting organization.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of recruiting issues and trends, labor laws, and legislative initiatives that have short- and long-term implications on the profitability of the business.

  • Select, appoint, and manage third party vendors; manage supplier relationships; and ensure vendor performance metrics are appropriate and monitored.

  • Define, assess and report on recruiting results and performance against metrics (i.e., days to fill, cost-per-hire, quality of hire, customer satisfaction).

  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors/partners supporting recruiting operations (i.e., agencies); sets high standards for quality and service delivery; negotiate effectively to ensure cost-effective pricing.

  • Develop and manage recruiting budget, exploring ways to reduce cost per hire while maintaining high level of quality. Assigns monthly allocation expenses to clients in partnership with HR Finance.


  • Bachelor's degree; preferred Master's degree in Business Administration, Sales/Marketing, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology or related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years' progressively increasing Human Resources experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years' of experience leading, designing and/or implementing talent acquisition strategies.

  • Minimum of 4 years' recruiting experience in a high volume environment

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in managing recruitment teams preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems, social media and recruiting process workflows.

  • Full understanding of employment laws and regulations relevant to the recruitment function in the Americas.
