The Caterpillar Information Technology Business Resource team is seeking a Data Scientist. This role, along with the Caterpillar IT Business Resource team in whole, partners with the Caterpillar IT business unit to support the business operations of more than 500 facilities around the globe in more than 180 countries. Caterpillar IT keeps Caterpillar connected (every aspect of the business from order management systems to e-commerce solutions, collaboration tools and more) and secure across the world. Caterpillar IT plays a critical role in Caterpillar’s Strategic Priorities and through their technology solutions serve as a catalyst for Caterpillar and Customers to build a better world.
Job Summary:
Performs analytical tasks and initiatives on huge amount of data to support data-driven business decision and development.
What You Will Do:
Process & Technology Enhancements
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation, driving efficiency and effectiveness both independently and through collaboration to optimize data.
Participate on application/system enhancement projects including leading specific workstreams and coordinating internal and external resources in the design and development.
Explore and implement new technology offerings and data sources to advance the digital skills and efficiencies for the Caterpillar Information Technology Finance Team
Design and maintain dashboards & visualizations utilizing Power BI
Technology Application Maintenance & Support
Provide data and technology expertise for Caterpillar Information Technology Finance Team with a focus on Microsoft Products
Oversee the administration, maintenance, and resolution of user issues of the team’s related applications and systems.
Contribute to policies, procedures, and standards as well as technical requirements.
Participate on design, implementation, and maintenance of SharePoint sites.
Perform integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results.
Data Analysis
Data modeling, data analysis, data quality, monitoring and technical troubleshooting of data issues.
Accomplish a high level of technical analysis of data, analyze various outputs, advise others (inside and outside of the department), resolve data issues.
Work with business partners to understand informational needs and dive into data to identify insights, ultimately driving sound business decisions.
Communicate effectively within the team, internal and external customers, and data providers.
What You Have:
Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
Analytical Thinking : Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Programming Languages: Knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages.
Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.
Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Python and Snowflake experience
Microsoft Power Platform and Excel intermediate capabilities
Strong knowledge of M365 and familiarity with PowerBI & SharePoint
Aptitude for process design and technology, with a focus on controls

The primary locations for this position are: East Peoria, IL; Dallas, TX
This position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$87,480.00 - $142,200.00
