Technology Engagement Manager

Role Definition:

This position is for a proven technology leader who wants to be an enabler of Caterpillar’s leading autonomous and semi-autonomous solutions. In this position, you will coach, guide, and facilitate a team responsible for engineering support across 7-9 engineering locations as well as field sites across the world, while providing business partner engagement & strategic roadmap responsibilities with key business leaders. You will also have responsibility for a technical diverse team of people chartered to pro-actively manage and support technologies and solutions used throughout the business.

This position collaborates directly with senior leaders of both Engineering and IT to develop and execute technology strategies to support the

business. This position leads an organization that delivers IT services to the division and is responsible for managing services provided from other internal IT organizations. The role consults with the business on process and technology in the following areas: product development, information security, digital services, and IT Operations.

A successful Engagement Manager builds and maintains excellent client relationships and is responsible for exceeding business partner expectations through implementation and delivery of IT technology products and solutions. Major responsibilities are strategy and planning, operational management and demand management & portfolio oversight and are defined as follows:

Strategy & Planning:

  • Drive Strategic IT roadmap development based on business objectives and lead governance processes to ensure all projects aligned to Engineering's OPACC agenda.

  • Drive the architecture, design, and implementation of proactive solutions to meet business and IT objectives.

  • Analyze business requirements by partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions for IT needs.

  • Establish an SLA driven approach to managing IT services provided to the customer.

  • Recommend new products and services, as well as maintain a general knowledge of emergent technologies that are applicable to the continued growth and improvement of our operational model.

  • Foster an environment of engagement, encourage innovation, and develop succession, career development and training plans for all employees.

Ope rational Management:

  • Define the IT services and services levels required by the business. Monitor the performance against these levels, developing and executing action plans where they are not being met.

  • Champion IT infrastructure, operations, service management related matters for the engineering organization.

  • Drive a culture of standard, consistent and proactive response to incidents to restore normal service operation as quickly as possible and eliminate repeat incidents that adversely impact business.

  • Develop and maintain departmental expenses and yearly Business Unit (BU) Pull aligned to business affordability & OPACC targets.

Demand Management and Portfolio oversight:

  • Actively manages the business demand signal for commitment and prioritization of pursuit, planning and pending portfolio initiatives into the demand management cycle.

  • Drive the development of business cases and value generation enabled by IT projects within the business.

  • Lead work groups to complete objectives to deliver OPACC value to the business.

  • Responsible for IT projects and programs on behalf of the Global IT Teams and the Customer

  • Perform vendor relationship management of strategic IT suppliers for engineering.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 7-10 years of IT experience

  • Demonstrated significant prior management experience.

  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills

  • Ability to balance Customer Service and IT governance.

  • Excellent, technical knowledge and experience working in an enterprise infrastructure and applications environment.

  • High Level of customer focus with professional communication skills

  • Demonstrated quick and clear decision-making skills, strong people management, and a focus on developing others.

  • Initiative-taker with strong technical leadership skills and business acumen

  • Ability to think broadly and strategically, balanced with high diligence.

  • Able to execute on multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced environments.

  • Possesses a service and solution-oriented approach.

  • Needs to be adaptable to rapid change.

  • Ability to interact and build strong relationships within all business and corporate functions.

  • Ability to manage pressure situations with clarity, focus and professionalism.

  • Takes responsibility and achieves results.

  • Excellent organizing, time management and priority setting skills.

Top Candidates will have:

  • Experience with building and supporting complex software engineering environments.

  • Domain expertise with IT security is desirable.

  • Understanding of Scale Agile (SAFe) methodology.

  • Able to communicate technical information effectively with management, work groups and others within the business and supply base.

  • Able to build strong relationships within all levels of the organization.

  • A high degree of creativity and “out-of-the-box” thinking.

  • Ability to share knowledge and collaborate by developing content and documentation for distribution to other team members, managers, and customer.

· The primary location for this position is Peoria, IL.

· This role requires 5 days onsite.

Summary Pay Range:

$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
