As an Associate Healthcare Economics Director in the Product Analytics organization, you will help lead data-driven studies to tell the story of how Optum Medical Benefit Management programs are making a difference in patient outcomes. Your role will include developing study methods, analyzing complex data with statistical and visual techniques, designing measures of clinical performance, and leading projects to completion. You’ll work closely with clinical leaders and other researchers to develop innovative analytic solutions to help Optum Medical Benefit Management fulfill its mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply statistical methods to evaluate clinical program performance of population health programs

  • Design and direct rigorous outcomes studies to establish link between patient outcomes and program performance

  • Identify and define reliable measures of clinical performance using both administrative data and patient reported outcomes

  • Lead projects to completion and direct the work of data and research analysts

  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, explain methods, and interpret findings

  • Manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet non-negotiable deadlines

  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Public Health, Health Services Research, Biostatistics, or similar

  • Experience/proficiency with statistical techniques such as logistic regression, predictive models, multivariate analysis, and linear models

  • 5+ years of experience in health care analytics and working with large medical claims data sets

  • 3+ years of experience in leading projects to measure clinical program performance

  • Advanced proficiency with SAS programming

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time/project management, problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills

  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $94,500 to $171,700.
