The Relationship Manager will play critical role in managing and growing existing relationships with regional or mid- sized clients and partners within Optum Financial Payments division. This role is accountable for leading the strategy & direction, drive action, and progress toward strategic objectives of meeting or exceeding Revenue (PAR and PTRR), cross selling new products & services within Optum Financial and other Optum divisions and contract renewals for each assigned client. Works with internal stakeholders or subject matter experts for any escalations to business level ensure the Optum client services team resolved the issue and ensures customer's experience. Builds trust with the customer by providing up-to-date insights, challenging the customer when necessary, and introducing innovative ideas relevant to the customer's business strategy. This position requires the ability to clearly understand and articulate Optum Financial value proposition of product & services and serve as the vertical payment expert for internal and external stakeholders for their assigned portfolio and escalation point for any unresolved operational services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive the strategy to meet both internal and external business goals with implementation and for remainder of contract term for assigned clients after initial contract is executed by sales

  • Proactively elevates relationships and uses strategies (e.g., challenger mindset) through multiple levels of the customer's organization to secure buy-in and execution. Expands strategic customer relationships to drive and spread into other areas of the organization

  • Identify strategic opportunities through a strong understanding of existing client organization structure, processes, and other divisions through demonstrating value to the payment eco-system, specifically how Optum

  • Financial helps drive incremental value

  • Collaborate with internal product and operational owners or external partners to drive implementation plans and ongoing revenue growth

  • Provide thought leadership and challenge the status quo to identify new opportunities to innovate and differentiate

  • Work closely with product leadership to provide feedback on product development needs for B2B and B2C space

  • Be the face to assigned clients, internal stakeholder’s or any third-party partners, drive thought leadership and vision through regular business reviews with assigned clients

  • Continuously review market and competitive landscape, identifying opportunities and strategies that will position Optum Financial as the market leader in the B2B space

  • Strong focus on execution and deliverables across the entire life cycle after a contract is executed for assigned client portfolio (relationship development, implementation, general account oversight)

  • Identify strategic innovation and development opportunities through a strong understanding of payment innovation, MasterCard (card networks) value added services and emerging technology

  • Influence the Client vision for the future of electronic payments, consistent with Optum Financial strategies

  • Attend conferences and Client face to face meetings as required

  • Responsible for contract renewals and any cross-sell/up-sell negotiations, contract executions

  • Understands partners' point of view and creates deep connections with decision makers throughout multiple levels of the customers' organization to drive business decisions and increase interaction and participation, leveraging relevant external tools and resources (e.g., LinkedIn). Leverages relationships to address complex blockers and drive execution for the client

  • Proactively develops a strong, comprehensive understanding of customer's business needs, priorities, strategies, and industry insights. Anticipates customer's needs to deliver new insights on their business strategy and educate customers on ways to address them jointly. Shows long-term differentiated value for the client, leveraging industry expertise and guides internal colleagues on ways to develop deeper client knowledge. Delivers solutions into overall long-term business strategy

  • Leverages unique, strategic, industry-focused business insights and opportunities to create long-term, competitive advantage for the customer

  • Ensuring regular contact with existing clients to maintain our company's presence. Repairing disengaged or fractured relationships

Location preference is Eden Prairie, MN with a hybrid schedule. Willing to consider fully remote candidates as well

This role will also require understanding of the following:

  • B2B Client Executive and value demonstration through written and oral storytelling

  • Financial modeling

  • Contract negotiation

  • Professional productivity tools (ex. - Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Salesforce, Teams, Visio, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field

  • 7+ years of experience in managing relationships and cultivating deep, trusted partnerships with clients

  • Experienced record of accomplishment for delivering results including contract negotiations

  • Experienced customer-facing communication skills in all mediums (video, in-person, writing) and all audiences (Peers, internal stakeholders, conferences, leadership, C-suite)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in influence-without-authority (networking / orchestration) with internal and external people to achieve business growth or profitability goals-

  • Understanding of competitive landscape and familiarity with healthcare and B2B Fintech industries

  • Understanding of B2B payment network, previous employment within the payments eco-system in both operational and sales role
