As a Sr. Instructional Designer on the Optum Enterprise Training team, you will work with business leaders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to support the end-to-end training needs of enterprise-wide projects and initiatives, specifically the Optum Enterprise Issue Management (OEIM) program.

This role is responsible for intake, consultation, training design, development, maintenance, and providing an effective learning experience through deployment or delivery of content; you will ensure that training solutions meet customer needs. You will design and develop both traditional and web-based training materials, conduct ongoing evaluations and assessments to ensure training quality and effectiveness, and implement modifications as necessary, working with business leaders and SMEs to obtain feedback and material. Also, you will engage in ongoing project management, communication, and problem solving to ensure timely delivery of quality training curricula.

This role requires an innovative mindset and staying abreast of various training delivery techniques, business processes, products, and systems in several functional areas. Further, as a key resource to others, you must maintain a high degree of accuracy along with attention to detail, creativity, excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a training resource on cross-functional major initiative projects, specifically the OEIM program

  • Execute day to day training development and delivery tasks with excellence

  • Conduct training needs analysis to assess and interpret customer needs and requirements

  • Determine project goals, create a plan/proposal, and gain stakeholder approval

  • Create and manage a project workplan

  • Work in an agile development process, iterating on ideas and deliverables based on user feedback

  • Translate concepts into practice

  • Design and development learning experiences in authoring tools such as Storyline, Articulate, Captivate, and more

  • Create courses in an LMS/learning platform and map to published training materials

  • Deliver training and facilitate demonstrations for teams being deployed on core systems, processes, and applications

  • Conduct train-the-trainer sessions to prepare trainers for delivery of content

  • Provide support/back-up to other members of the team

  • Perform other duties to support projects contributing to educational goals

  • Review and edit training material created by colleagues

  • Attend project collaboration meetings/document oversight meetings as necessary to understand process changes and training needs

  • Document and communicate training design decisions (i.e., design documents, training approaches, etc.)

  • Maintain a centralized location for training materials and resources

  • Explore and embrace innovative learning technologies that provide an engaging end-user experience

  • Work with minimal guidance; seek guidance on only the most complex tasks

  • Provide explanations and information to others on difficult issues

  • Establish solid, collaborative customer relationships

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of professional instructional design experience in a corporate training setting

  • 1+ years of experience designing web-based training content

  • Demonstrable experience in project management

  • Experience working with Office365 tools, specifically SharePoint Online

  • Proven proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g. Articulate, Camtasia, Captivate)

  • Willingness to telecommute

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training delivery (facilitator) experience

  • Experience designing solutions that meet enterprise audience needs and leverage various types of learning technology

  • Video or multimedia recording and editing experience

  • Storyboarding experience

  • Technical Writing experience

  • Familiarity with the Optum Enterprise Issue Management (OEIM) program

  • Knowledge of Adult Learning Theory and how to apply to the design of learning experiences

  • Ability to develop engaging communications materials, using a creative approach and close attention to detail

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills; ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Self-starter with high degree of emotional intelligence (can demonstrate effective interpersonal, influencing, collaboration, and listening skills)

  • Proven ability to interface effectively with business partners and provide training recommendations in ambiguous situations

  • Results driven, with a proven ability execute on deliverables both independently and within a cross-functional team setting

  • Proven ability to work in a self-directed manner in a complex, change-oriented environment

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
