Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Manufacturing Technician 2 or 3 in our Line, Mix & Cast area for our Elkton, Maryland location.

The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA.

Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Primary Job responsibilities are:

  • Follows the direction of supervision and lead technicians for the fabrication of rocket motors. Works with explosives and chemicals during the processing of propellant and rocket motor components.

  • Candidate must be able to read and follow written manufacturing instructions. Must be able to work closely with non-manufacturing personnel to meet build requirements and schedules.

  • Safe handling of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and company policies.

  • Operate production equipment such as mixers, presses, lathes, scales, hoists, forklift, ovens, and computers. Operate various instruments such as verniers, durometers, height gages and resistance meters.

  • Support many areas of manufacturing such as - Line, Mix and Cast, Insulation, Final Assembly, and Ordnance Assembly when workload requires additional labor.

Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Manufacturing Technician 2 or a Manufacturing Technician 3, depending on years of experience and qualifications.

Basic Requirements Manufacturing Technician 2

  • High School Diploma

  • 2 or more years of overall work experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple to moderately complicated work instructions.

  • Ability to perform simple math calculations.

  • Exposure to Chemistry and vocational training such as soldering, woodworking, metalworking, electrical, welding, mechanical training or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to obtain certification for respirator use.

  • Competent to operate forklifts and hoists with training.

  • Available to work modified shifts, overtime and weekends, if needed.

  • Ability to interpret assembly and process drawings with training.

  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

  • High School Diploma

  • 4 or more years of overall work experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple to moderately complicated work instructions.

  • Ability to perform simple math calculations.

  • Exposure to Chemistry and vocational training such as soldering, woodworking, metalworking, electrical, welding, mechanical training or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to obtain certification for respirator use.

  • Competent to operate forklifts and hoists with training.

  • Available to work modified shifts, overtime and weekends, if needed.

  • Ability to interpret assembly and process drawings with training.

  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

Preferred Requirements:

  • Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word.

  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.

  • Experience in a manufacturing, assembly or mechanics position

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
