This is an exempt level position

Position Summary:

The Sr. Data Platform Architect is a member of the Data Architecture team, supporting new development/projects as the highest-level technology domain expert within the Enterprise Architecture organization. The Sr. Data Platform Architect is responsible for the assessment of business requirements; collection and identification of technical specifications; and the subsequent design of technology solutions that enable project development by corresponding delivery teams. The Sr. Data Platform Architect will envision and create solutions that meet requirements; model the pieces of an infrastructure and their points of integration; prove the feasibility of a design; create the design artifacts that are required to deliver and maintain the infrastructure; guide a solution through to its completion.

The Sr. Data Platform Architect will ensure that solutions are designed for optimal access and usefulness and leverage existing (or propose new) technologies for their specific technical domain(s) and understand system-wide impacts. They will drive near/mid-term roadmap creation, to address gaps and move the company towards an architecture to support future business growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable to the Director of Data Architecture for the quality of all architecture deliverables

  • Career aspirations to progress into a management role leading team(s) of like-minded people

  • Lead the development of data-oriented enterprise roadmaps to enhance capabilities that support organizational needs

  • Work with data warehouse and data integration teams to ensure successful delivery of enterprise data solutions

  • Develop technology specifications and ensure that solutions are designed for optimal access and usefulness, and leverage existing technologies when possible

  • Apply architectural and engineering concepts to design solutions that meets operational requirements (scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, extensibility, flexibility, availability, and manageability)

  • Identify problems, develop ideas, and propose solutions within differing situations requiring analytical, evaluative, or constructive thinking in daily work

  • Contribute to an engineering atmosphere which values automation and enablement, driven by technology innovations

  • Prepare and present ideas and recommendations to colleagues and management

  • Collaborate across architectural domains (Technology Operations, Security, Application, Data) to gain alignment on newly proposed enterprise standards through IT Architecture Committee participation

  • Document solutions via architecture blueprints and playbooks

  • Speak effectively before groups of business and IT personnel

  • Provide fit-gap recommendations to teams when designing solutions to new requirements

  • Deliver projects/work on-time, on-budget, and in a way that accomplishes project goals

  • Mentor team members to enhance team capacity/capability via cross training

Job Requirements:

  • Functional

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in applying data management principles and industry standards to design, build and maintain complex data solutions on Operational and Analytic platforms in Microsoft Azure Cloud

  • Knowledge and skills in data warehousing methodologies and tools

  • Able to work on multiple projects without sacrificing delivery

  • Effective communication skills and facilitation experience with business stakeholders and executive leadership to understand organization data needs and capture data requirements

  • Strong written communication skills including functional design documentation and training material development

  • Strong collaboration skills working with design and development teams

  • Able to critically think and be solution-oriented

  • Experience in delivering solutions using Agile methodology

  • Previous experience functioning as a team lead or career aspiration to move into team management

  • Technical

  • Hands on/depths of experience with cloud services (Azure), modern data warehouse tools (Databricks, SAP), business intelligence platforms (Microsoft), and real-time data distribution (Kafka)

  • Proficiency in the design and implementation of modern data architectures

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL database technologies

  • Experience with Master Data Management principles and systems

  • Education

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree of study
