Project Overview:

Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. Bechtel renewables team will perform the project management, engineering, procurement, and construction for a 218MWac / 271MWdc utility-scale solar photovoltaic (“PV”) generating plant to be located in Posey County, Indiana. This position will be a short-term assignment. In addition to meeting all the Essential Job Duties and Job Knowledge, the ideal candidate should be adaptable and able to relocate to project sites throughout the US.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing operations within the applicable discipline. Supports the Project Field Engineer, Superintendents, craft, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and contractors performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets. Reports to Project Field Engineer for daily scheduled work priorities, coordination between other disciplines and assigned specific tasks.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performing inspections and initiating supporting documentation for all discipline system installations on an ongoing basis.

  • Providing support to field supervision in establishing requirements for manpower, tools, equipment, and material requirements for a given work evolution.

  • Developing installation work packages for scopes of work in support of the construction schedule.

  • Preparing short- and long-term schedules, and interfacing with the superintendents and other discipline field engineers.

  • Providing input to the quantity tracking applications and reporting on weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.

  • Preparing field material requisitions for equipment and materials, and monitoring status of purchase orders and deliveries.

  • Assisting field procurement in receipt inspection and reporting of associated equipment and materials and preventive maintenance requirements.

  • Trouble-shooting the design and resolving issues with engineering and/or fabricator using formal field documentation processes.

  • Ensuring all installations are per latest revisions of design drawings, specifications, standards, and codes.

  • Acting as point of contact for coordination and resolution of all technical issues related to select subcontractors on site who provide technical services for the execution of the permanent plant electrical systems scope of work, including initiating all formal subcontract change documentation to support the subcontract administrator.

  • Completing and verifying quality documentation per inspection and test plans.

  • Completing final system walk-downs, deficiency tracking, and close-out.

  • Completing and reviewing as-built documentation.

  • Monitoring actual work performance compared to the project budget and schedule.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, walking on uneven surfaces.

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means and methods.

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.

  • Priror SetRoute/Smart Coompletions experience an asset.

  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical commodity and equipment installation including: cable pulling, terminations, and underground direct bury cable installation.

  • Prior GIS experience an asset.
