Lockheed Martin Environmental Safety and Health Engineer (Mid-Career, Level 3) in Fort Smith, Arkansas

Description: Lockheed Martin plays an important role in the national security of the United States and more than 70 other nations, ensuring peace and stability around the world. We are on a mission to strengthen the backbone of the free world by supporting Ebbing Field’s mission as the world class fighter jet training center for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers in Fort Smith, Arkansas

Responsibilities include:

• Develops and implements the Ground Safety program to prevent and correct unsafe environmental working conditions using knowledge of industrial processes and industrial health and safety laws.

• Inspects aircraft flight line / hangar work areas to ensure fire and safety equipment and facilities comply with safety plan and regulations. Investigate industrial accidents to minimize and prevent future recurrence.

• Perform workplace hazard assessments and spot inspections to ensure good housekeeping, clean as you go, and safety practices are enforced.

• Examines plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment, facilities, to determine if all safety precautions have been included.

• Provide Confined Space, Radiation Safety, Hazard Communication, Flight line drivers and HAZARD Abatement training.

• May evaluate and/or oversee contractors' or vendors’ performance ensuring safety standards are met. Interact with senior leaders on aircraft and personnel safety matters.

• Other requirements as directed by leadership

• Must possess at least an Interim Secret Security Clearance. Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Basic Qualifications:

The following Basic Qualifications are skills that a candidate must possess to be considered for this position:

• At least 3 years’ experience as 5 or 7- skill level in USAF Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC), Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC), or Marine Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) aircraft maintenance discipline or equivalent.

• At least 2 years’ experience with flight line safety, safety center: Ground, AMIC, or JEMIC safety courses.

• Experience with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Flight line Safety, Fall Protection, Foreign Object Damage/Debris (FOD) and Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) programs.

Desired Skills:

The following Desired Skills are not required but are those skills that would set a candidate apart from the others:

• Understand application of safety principles, concepts, practices, and standards to include knowledge of industry and company practices.

• Understanding of military fighter aircraft systems, aircraft maintenance activities and high tempo flight operations.

• Experience with Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH).

• Prior fifth generation aircraft maintenance and flight operational experience a plus.

• Ability to work in a diverse work culture environment.

• Ability to work in a flexible schedule environment.

• Proven communication skills.

• ESH Background of running programs at sites (e.g. confined space, respirator, fall protection, hearing conservation, drivers safety, CPR…)

• OSHA required industrial hygiene sampling (e.g., hexavalent chromium, isocyanates, gap filler – formaldehyde, etc.…)

Application level of knowledge in:

• COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2, The Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP)

• NAVAIR 01-1A-35, Aircraft Fuel Cells and Tanks

• 29 CFR 1910.146, Permit Required Confined Space

• 29 CFR 1910.134, Respiratory Protection

• DCMAI 8210.1, Contractor’s Flight and Ground Operation

Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
