Fabric Developer

Dickies exists to champion the passion, pride and power of work. As the Fabric Developer, you will be responsible for seasonal fabric development working with VF GMS (Global Materials Supply) and suppliers to ensure new fabrics meet Dickies quality standards and testing requirements, adhering to the GTM calendar ensuring on time delivery of development. This role would also be responsible for entering and maintaining Fabric Master within the PLM system. This role partners closely with the design team to select the new seasonal fabric based on the requested fabric construction and functional finishes.

To succeed as the Fabric Developer, you need to have an eye for detail and be comfortable with data, while actively looking for solutions for fast changing situations. Communication is key, as in your role you will have to work with different internal stakeholders. As we work against deadlines, planning your short- and long-term activities in the best way possible is also important.

How You Will Make a Difference

What you will do:

  • Work with design and GMS team on problem solving on fabric costs and value engineering fabrics to hit our target costs.

  • Work with Eastern/Western Hemisphere GMS teams and fabric suppliers on fabric options based on design briefs:

  • gather and evaluate fabric information

  • review and provide feedback on initial testing results for fabric approval

  • follow up on new fabric trials.

  • Review fabric testing results against fabric specifications and advising approval status to fabric suppliers and GMS team.

  • Provide the support and advise to GMS team or the fabric suppliers how to improve the fabric quality (hand, appearance, and performance) during the development process when the initial fabric is below the spec.

  • Assist with color/wash review as needed with the QA, PD, and Design team.

  • Troubleshoot and problem solve for any issue related to the fabric and color during the development and production cycle.

  • Analyze competitor sample fabric and their testing data and come up with the option for Dickies.

  • Initiate and follow up on the color lab dip, yarn dye hand loom, and print strike-off approvals.

  • Oversee fabric counter source project.

  • Set up fabric in ERP and PLM systems accurately.

  • Maintain physical fabric library and build electronic fabric information file and approved fabric files accurately.

  • Special projects as needed by Fabric Development Manager.

Skills for Success

Years of Related Professional Experience: 3-5 years professional experience including proven track record of working in the workwear and/or fashion lifestyle apparel industry with a rudimentary knowledge of the apparel retail space.

Educational Position Requirements: A formal education and subsequent undergraduate/graduate degrees are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.

What we expect you already know:

  • Strong working knowledge of fibers and fabrics (woven and knit)

  • Strong working knowledge of the fabric dyeing (piece dye and yarn dye), printing, and finishing

  • Familiar with the costing of different functional finishes

  • Knowledge in denim wash a plus

  • Multitask and detail oriented

  • Excellent written and communications skills.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Need to have strong computer skills in Excel, Word, Power Point. Knowledge in Database programs a plus.

  • Multilingual communications considered a plus.

Hiring Range :

$64,800.00 USD - $81,000.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential : This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
