This position is for a senior Design Engineering professional with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. Designs major components, provides technical guidance to junior engineers, and makes recommendations to managements. Presents designs for engineering, technical and business reviews, and coordinates with other functions and organizations.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development to exchange information, ideas and techniques for design of product or processes.

  • Provide technical leadership for all design related tasks of the project assigned

  • Project Head to ensure that design tasks are properly managed to achieve project delivery in accordance with project plans

  • Integrated Product Team (IPT) to ensure Engineering integration into overall program requirements

  • Divisional Engineering teams to ensure that engineering integrity is achieved, engineering procedures are followed, lessons learned are addressed, and a robust trouble-free product is developed

  • Execute design activities and Liaise with customer/suppliers for all design related issues

  • Foster strong customer relationships through accountability, transparency and credibility

  • Responsible and accountable for all design tasks and completion dates

  • Set design team priorities and objectives with a strong drive to meet expectations

  • Work with other members of the IPT to ensure the product meets requirements (cost, producibility, customer, regulatory, internal design standards)

  • Communicate progress and roadblocks with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) and the Project Head

  • Review, recommend, coordinate design, drawing changes activity with customer, other company disciplines and coordinate activities between production, manufacturing, and engineering

  • Investigate design related issues and develops effective solutions

  • Generate design documentation such as tolerance stack-ups, interface agreements, and proximity sensing analysis

  • Develop Landing Gear and Landing Gear mechanisms from customer specifications considering regulatory requirements and UTC Aerospace Systems Landing Systems engineering methodologies

  • Generate design layouts, developmental and kinematic assemblies in Catia V5

  • Direct detail designers and check their output to ensure compliance to functional and customer requirements

  • Present designs at internal and external design reviews to ensure the design meets requirements and expectations

  • Develop and achieve agreement on Landing Gear interfaces with customers and suppliers

  • Design to requirements and work with the engineering team on requirements management

  • Perform Engineering investigations into failures and participate in Root Cause and Corrective ActionEnsure timely and satisfactory resolution of problems

  • Ensure compliance to UTC Aerospace Systems Landing Systems engineering methodologies by providing direction/guidance to the design team

  • Maintain compliance to ITAR and regulatory requirements

  • Comply with all ethics and EH&S policies and guidelines and conduct themselves in an ethical manner

  • Occasional travel between customer/suppliers and UTC Aerospace Systems locations. Long term assignments may be required during the joint definition phases for new programs

  • May be asked to perform other duties as required based on skills and qualifications

The successful candidate has a strong understanding of kinematics and general knowledge of structural and mechanical systems design for preliminary design purposes. You will function as an overall Design Lead reporting to the Project Head for Project 1018. You will conduct trade studies, complete layouts, check design data, and provide direction to the detail design engineers assigned to the program.

Qualification:

Basic Qualifications;

  • 5+ years prior relevant experience

  • Working knowledge of MS programs (Word, Excel, PPT)

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with internal and external

Preferred:

Proficient in Catia V5 - fundamentals, kinematics, layouts, functional tolerance and annotation (FTA)

Working knowledge of Engineering PDM systems such as MatrixOne, Smarteam and Teamcenter

Preliminary conceptual design experience

Experience leading and directing engineers

Good understanding of landing gear principals and design methodologies

Working knowledge of hydraulic actuator/system design, forgings, layouts, mechanical system and structural design (fatigue and static).

Good understanding of requirements management

Generates test requirements and supports the test lab for design related tests

Knowledgeable of external and internal loads, free-body-diagrams, structural sizing analysis for preliminary design purposes. Working knowledge of aerospace materials, surface treatments and manufacturing processes

Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and familiar with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an Accredited Institution
