The Role at a Glance
As an Associate - Recovery Specialist you will be responsible for managing the calculation and recovery of offsets, settlements, overpayments, and underpayments of disability claims. In this role, you will gather financial and other relevant information from customers, claimants, claims case managers, Attorney’s, and vendors to validate benefits paid and calculate potential overpayments or underpayments and negotiate timely, appropriate repayment arrangements and settlements.
The Financial Services Team will provide you with several weeks of paid training, coaching and development to perform in this fast-paced environment. Training will be led by one of our dedicated trainers in a virtual setting, along with a cohort of peers, and will provide you with foundational knowledge to assist you in excelling in a career with Lincoln Financial Group.
As an Associate - Recovery Specialist you will be responsible for managing the calculation and recovery of offsets, settlements, overpayments, and underpayments of disability claims. In this role, you will gather financial and other relevant information from customers, claimants, claims case managers, Attorney’s, and vendors to validate benefits paid and calculate potential overpayments or underpayments and negotiate timely, appropriate repayment arrangements and settlements.
What you'll be doing
Analyze, compare, calculate, and reconcile complex financial data/calculations pertaining to complex scenarios on the SystemOne platform. Interpret policy/contract provisions, calculate overpayments on System Corrections related to tax withholding, claims coding, deductions, claim taxability, Class assignment, Workers Compensation, COLA, complex customers, benefit offsets, and RTW/work earnings.
Consult with claimants, vendors, attorneys, and customers to explain calculations and collection processes. Negotiate all settlements and repayment plans that exceed 24 months or more to maintain within state and federal debt and collection guidelines.
Respond to calls, letters and emails from policyholders, agents, vendors, attorneys, internal partners, and providers related to claim underpayments, overpayments and explanation of benefits. Responsible for all escalations including DOI and Legal etc.
Perform within company regulations regarding HIPAA, fraud, confidentiality, and private information.
Provide, document, and deliver to management creative alternatives and recommendations to streamline processes and improve production. Follow up and execute final product.
Identify trends, advise, and recommend actions to a manager based on sound analysis, and follow through with implementation.

Administer a structured Training Program that specifies milestones and required competencies.
Conduct continuous training, auditing, and provide feedback to management regarding new staff and newly promoted employees.
Define, document, and educate best practice & training documentation to maintain consistent and aligned across the financial department.
Take initiative to recognize and analyze root cause problems with the intent to provide recommended solutions to improve operation effectiveness.
Gain and update job knowledge to remain informed.
Responsible for reviewing and approving payments that exceed recovery specialists set authority level up to $10k.
Responsible for reviewing and approving repayment plans that are outside of the recovery specialist’s authority levels.
Responsible for reviewing, handling, and resolving escalated issues from Attorneys, Customers, claimants, and business partners on behalf of the manager.
Simultaneously working within several systems independently.
What we’re looking for
Extensive knowledge on the S1 platform. Fully trained and proficient in all aspects of Financial Recovery Services role.
Undergraduate degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience
3+ years of claims recalculation and recovery experience directly aligned to the specific responsibilities of this position.
Effective strong written, verbal communication skills and mathematical skills.
Ability to maneuver through multiple systems/databases/platforms/software.
Ability to be adaptable/flexible as business needs change.
Ability to problem solve and make independent decisions, while providing compassionate customer service.
Research and data entry experience in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail.
Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues, and peers.

The pay range for this position is $42,800 - $77,700 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
