Job Summary:

The Diversity and Inclusion Manager will serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on diversity and inclusion issues for North America, providing innovative solutions, strategies, for craft professional attraction and retention.

Major Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities for the Diversity & Inclusion Manager - Construction Craft Professionals include the following:

  • Working with the Global Workforce Services manager, this position plans, designs and implements programs to further Bechtel’s strategic business objectives as they relate to diversity and inclusion for construction craft professionals in North America. These activities include, but are not limited to, the integration of diversity into key business processes at Bechtel (e.g. attraction recruitment, performance management, engagement, training, and development, etc.).

  • Lead and influence the implementation of initiatives that support the attraction and retention of a diverse and inclusive construction workforce, including targeted strategies focused on attracting more women into construction trades.

  • Develop and deliver training and communications materials to Construction and workforce Services team members so they can effectively respond to employee inquiries regarding Diversity & Inclusion.

  • Develop and implement measures, metrics, and accountabilities via a Diversity Scorecard to track the progress of the related initiatives—reporting results on a regular basis.

  • Represent Bechtel in interactions with external diversity-related organizations including responding to media requests and general inquiries from the public.

  • Develop presentations focused diversity-related issues for Bechtel meetings, local and state conferences, and other events as requested.

  • Work with partner organizations in providing thought leadership, policies/advocacy, and products/services for the Construction profession, GBU’s and project teams.

  • Partner with the leaders across Bechtel’s offices in other regions around the world, to provide diversity & inclusion solutions for construction craft professionals.

  • May also assist the Employee Relations Manager with employee investigations and compliance related matters.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 10 years' or more progressive experience in HR/LR/IR management with an emphasis on deploying diversity and inclusion initiatives for large organizations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Project and / or construction experience preferred.

  • Excellent research, analytical, writing, and quantitative skills.

  • Formal diversity related coursework and or training preferred.

  • Computer proficiency with MS Office suite and Internet navigation.

  • Must be adept at building working relationships in order to facilitate work and be a proactive team player who has demonstrated success in taking initiative to accomplish tasks.

  • Breadth and depth of experience in leading large-scale change within complex and diverse organization cultures.

  • Exceptional interpersonal (communications, conflict management, negotiation) and facilitation skills for working with diverse populations and management styles.

  • Strong team player with collaborative leadership style in working with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to motivate, lead and inspire small and large audiences.

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques used in designing training programs, developing design strategy and models, and applying design methods to the improvement of instructional effectiveness.

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to work independently on complex projects with minimal supervision. Ability to plan projects, develop milestones and meet specific deadlines.

  • Ability to navigate and address highly sensitive diversity issues with ease, tact, and diplomacy.

  • Experience working in and effectively leading cross functional teams.

  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing strategies that create deep cultural change.

  • Excellent leadership, people management, collaboration, and influencing skills. Business travel required.
