Solar Turbines Incorporated seeks Program Manager-Design Services at its facility located at 10203 Sam Houston Park Drive, Suite 300, Houston, TX 77064. Work with Design Group manager to determine and prepare Project manhours and cost estimates. Determine staffing needs for projects and proposals. Assign special tasks, establish training needs, and coordinate coverage for personnel PTO. Manage the flow of information related to design processes and guidelines to external design services companies Design group leads. Manage 3D modelling, drawings creation and Built-In-Quality (BIQ) activities and reporting between onsite teams and offshore design services teams using Computer Aided Design Tools (Hardware and Software) in compliance with Solar requirements. Coordinate and assist in training and development of personnel to use3D design software. Recognize potential and actual problem areas; investigate, analyze, develop, and present solutions. Drive and track the team to follow established processes and procedures. Initiate and recommend design group process changes. Work with internal customers consisting of proposals and project engineers and teams. Support PM and PE on normal and special requests from external customers. External customers consist of customer design teams to resolve compatibility and deliver design deliverables in appropriate formats. Maintain Solar In-house team alignment with external teams, especially offshore teams. Represent the organization in providing solutions to technical problems associated with specific projects/programs. Participate in the preparation of project design deliverables schedules and work with the Design Group Manager, Project Engineers, lead designers, and PM schedulers. Schedule-Quality-Cost Management. Monitor and report that lead designers are releasing deliverables in line with the Drawings Schedule Report (DSR) in the Document Control system without delays and/or disruptions, and with the expected quality. Periodically spot check design group deliverables for completeness and compliance with specifications and standards. Interface with Shop and perform liaison tasks, take feedback from shop, and coordinate with Design/Engineering for timely resolution. Drive Design Services companies performance and more specifically in weekly and other Team meetings. Interface with Design Services representatives to discuss containment and corrective actions. Represent the Design group on the fabrication coordination, and schedule periodic meetings. Support proposals & Product Development group. Develop, train, implement, and enforce CADD Standards, File transfer Protocols, and communication Matrix. Stay up to date with software programs features and capabilities in line with IT Support and disseminate CADD application updates to the Design group. Recommend improvements to design software system and play a key role in the implementation of software and application improvements/upgrades. Maintain and update the design group design guidelines manual. Develop design guidelines, planning/scheduling processes to promote standardization. Coordinate and provide leadership for teams working on the Smart model Library, 3D catalogs, Standard part models/Drawings. REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s, degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, plus 10 years of experience in Oil and gas facilities design combined with CADD experience or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Management of Design Software programs used to create three dimensional designs of plants facilities; (2) Computer Aided Design and Drafting software programs: Autodesk Plant 3D, Autodesk Advance Steel and AutoCAD based Electrical and Instrumentation software programs. 3D software management; (3) Managing international External Design Services companies; (4) Creating & maintaining design procedures and practices; (5) Management of Database software programs, programming on Excel databases, and formatting Microsoft Word files; and (6) Coordination of design of Oil and Gas facilities projects between the Mechanical, Civil and Structural, and Electrical and Instrumentation disciplines. Telecommuting: 1 day/week.
Summary Pay Range: $ 147,181. – $ 180,449.
