Aerojet Rocketdyne Intern - Business Support, Communications in Huntsville, Alabama


Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) is seeking a Communications Intern for Summer 2023 at either the Arlington, VA site or Huntsville, AL site . We will only consider local students. Internships at AR provide both an opportunity and challenge for students to enhance their professional skills.

A successful student-candidate will be a self-starter with a strong interest in Communications, Aerospace and Defense.

AR is a world recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to the space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armament sectors in support of domestic and international markets.

The role is expected to begin in May/June and last approximately 10-12 weeks.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

25% - Brainstorming messaging, ad concepts, media outreach opportunites. Assisting in ad hoc report development.

20% -Integrating multiple sources/media into one draft communication product. Conducting special studies in a variety of occupational fields.

20% - Providing recommendations for social media content and engagement.

15% - Assist in drafting talking points, Q&A and other communication products.

10% - Recommending communication solutions appropriate to customer requirements by analyzing and interpreting audience and desired results.

10% - Collecting and analyzing data and/or statistics, conducting research and special studies, preparing reports detailing study findings and developing recommendations. Preparing charts and other graphic presentations to illustrate a function within a department and creating/revising forms for office procedures.


Candidate must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related major and be returning to school upon completion of the assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

3.2 GPA or above

Junior standing or above

Solid academic track record of accomplishment

Working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Self-starter with the ability to work with little direction

Leadership & teamwork skills

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
