Job Location: Whitestown, IN Shift: Nights M-F 8PM-6AM The purpose of the Quality Shift Specialist is to be responsible for quality management support in the production area, along with being responsible for the development and implementation of quality policies, procedures, and practices. The Quality Shift Specialist will oversee all daily operations of the quality and sanitation teams to support processing and packaging. This position will support the Night Shifts. The schedule will be 8:00PM – 6:00AM, Monday through Friday. There may be a need to flex to Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday and times may vary based on business needs. This person will direct the quality and sanitation employees to ensure procedures are followed and drive the operation to maximize stewardship, safety, quality, and productivity. The Quality Shift Specialist has the authority to approve the release of ingredients, shut lines down or hold products for quality issues, and make decisions on how to proceed with incidents. In the event of QA Shift Specialist’s absence, QA Manager will cover job responsibilities. Responsibilities: · Managing and updating quality systems (webtools, HARPC, HACCP, and HACQP plans). · Creating and implementing training of associates on the quality systems, monthly. · Completing monthly internal audits for designated areas, including both a physical audit and document review that will establish policies, procedures and work instructions that adhere to improvement in quality fundamentals. · Sampling ingredients, verifying oil blends, inspecting tankers, and environmental swabbing as needed. · Completing reports with information for senior sales group, customers, ownership, and other company decision makers as needed. · Oversee the development implementation, review, and maintenance of SQF systems while supporting continuous improvement of the SQF systems. · Maintain knowledge of Food Safety, Quality Fundamentals, & Quality Plan while adhering to all applicable FDA health and OSHA safety regulations. · Demonstrate effective communication between the quality function and operations, interfacing with multiple production departments. · Completion of all required paperwork and forms accurately and timely for accuracy and validity. This includes reviews of records generated by team members. · Perform objective evaluations of products and processes. · Work closely with operations personnel to achieve company initiatives. · Development and implementation of an effective records retention program. · Perform Inspections of incoming raw material including review of material COA’s. · Calibrate lab equipment. · Complete inspections of finished products prior to release to warehouse. · Identification of areas for improvement in the Food Safety and Quality Management System. · Flexibility regarding work schedule as needed. · Performance of required environmental testing. · Inspection and participation in sanitation processes as necessary. · Assist Manager in overseeing QA technicians, if needed. · Training new hires in laboratory procedures while coaching and mentoring existing quality team members to ensure they are following best practices and established protocol for food safety and quality. · Responsible for investigations of customer complaints while helping drive customer complaints down. · Ensuring Sanitation team members complete their MSS tasks on schedule. · Support and complete monthly QPIs. · This position is considered the back-up SQF Practitioner for their assigned facility. · Management of special projects and performance of other duties as directed. Qualifications and Education: · 5+ years of experience working in a similar role in food manufacturing facility. · BS or AS degree in related food science or engineering strongly recommended, or related field or equivalent experience; completion of college coursework in a scientific discipline required. · Previous Sanitation & Calibration experience preferred. · Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. · Basic understanding of mathematical principles and the ability to interpret numerical data. · HARPC PCQI and/or HACCP certification or ability to achieve such certification. · Demonstrative ability to interact with operations personnel. · Ability to effectively operate test equipment. · Ability to be objective in data interpretation. · Ability to be objective in personal interactions. · Ability to focus on process and not people when seeking corrective action to operational challenges. · SQF Practitioner or ability to achieve such certification within a year. · Internal Auditing Certificate/s.
