Johnson & Johnson Vision R&D is recruiting for a Staff Systems Integration Engineer in Irvine, California.

The Staff Engineer R&D – Systems Integration researches, architects, develops, leads, and tests complete systems and sub-system components as part of innovative product development. This position works in, with, and across several disciplines including electrical, mechanical, ultrasonics, fluidics, hardware, and software.

The Staff Engineer R&D – System Integration architects the system, capturing customer requirements into system and component specifications while managing project documentation. This position then works closely with members of a cross-functional team through design, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, iteration, and verification and validation to demonstrate and document product requirements.

The Staff Engineer R&D – Systems Integration leads internal and external collaborators towards these goals.

The Staff Engineer R&D – Systems Integration undertakes creative work, making systematic use of investigation or experimentation, to discover or revise knowledge of reality and uses this knowledge to devise new applications.

The Staff Engineer R&D – Systems Integration adheres to environmental policy, procedures, and supports department environmental objectives. This position engages in Credo-based decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Main areas of responsibility

  • Define engineering projects including customer requirements, technology research, simulations, feasibility demonstration, and project planning.

  • Lead system architecture design including hardware, software, and complex electromechanical sub-systems. Negotiate specifications throughout the system hierarchy.

  • Develop powerful yet elegant user interfaces by demonstrating a good understanding of human-factor engineering.

  • Develop the project’s methodology and plan for specification and requirements management.

  • Develop the project’s methodology and plan for system integration. Conduct sub-system testing and full-system integration, hands-on testing, and troubleshooting.

  • Work with the development team to plan, design, develop, and test system functions and performance. Drive issues to closure.

  • Direct work with outside contractors and suppliers in the design and development and troubleshooting of assemblies and systems.

  • Provide technical system leadership in concept, development, prototyping, and system integration. Partner with project management to ensure on-time execution of project goals.

  • Interface with clinical and regulatory partners to achieve target endpoints.

  • Prepare reports and presentations to management on project status and technical readiness. Make recommendations for change to ensure on-time completion.

Define scope of parts of the projects, estimate cost and time, prepare justification for capital and expense purchases

Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S. with equivalent experience

  • 5 years’ engineering experience,

  • Hands-on debugging/troubleshooting experience in electromechanical systems

  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to team well with other engineers and scientists.

Preferred:

  • M.S. in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering with EE or CS focus

  • Experience in R&D development projects in Medical Devices.

  • Strong background in ultrasonics and/or micro-fluidics control system.

  • Experience in developing automated test and data analysis systems using NI LabVIEW or similar toolsets.

  • Experience in developing model-based system designs using Mathworks MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow or similar toolsets.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $119,000 to $166,800.
