Job Summary:

The Cat Digital DevOps & Cybersecurity team supports the Cat Digital development community by providing tooling, technical guidance, standards, and best practices across DevOps, CloudOps, Cybersecurity, and FinOps functions. As a FinOps Engineer, you will be responsible for helping cross-functional teams within the Cat Digital organization to maintain financial accountability for cloud services. The FinOps Engineer will manage increasing the business value of cloud, enabling distributed teams to fully understand cloud costs with speed and quality. FinOps will engage engineers in cost management, establish a long-term cost-saving process, optimize Infrastructure expenses, and improve observability by using a financial cloud management approach.

What you will do: As a FinOps Engineer, you will work with DevOps Engineers and Cat Digital Engineering teams to identify, monitor, manage, maintain, and recommend changes in cost to positively impact the value of the Cat Digital data platform.

  • Monitor Cost Management dashboards and budgets

  • Provide cost analysis and reports to management and peers

  • Work with CloudOps Engineers to identify under-utilized resources

  • Work with developers to optimize resource utilization

  • Work with developers to rationalize cost anomalies and take corrective actions

  • Manage and maintain automated cost reporting tools

  • Recommend cloud provider cost management/savings

  • Partner with internal business units to acquire and implement discount plans

  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team

What You will have:

  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Consideration for top candidates:

  • 3+ years of FinOps experience or at least 5 years of experience in related field.

  • Experience with AWS cloud services

  • Knowledge of multiple AWS services, including specific experience with Athena, Cost Manager, and Trusted Advisor.

  • Experience with AWS tagging and understand how to use tagging for cost allocation and cost tracking purposes

  • Experience working with AWS CUR files

  • Strong experience with PowerBI and Microsoft Excel

  • Strong experience with SQL queries

  • AWS and/or FinOps certifications

Additional Details:

This position has the option to be based out of either our Chicago, IL or Peoria, IL, or Irving, TX (Dallas) offices with a flexible hybrid work environment.

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $155,400.00
