Product Manager (Energy Solutions)

The Caterpillar Electric Power Division (EPD) is seeking a Product Manager for their energy solutions products. In this role, the successful candidate will lead a team of market consultants and specialists in market analysis, strategy development, and product definition for Electric Power’s microgrid and power solutions, including but not limited to Fuel Cells, Energy Storage Systems (ESS), Hydrogen Infrastructure, Photovoltaic Systems (PV), Battery Chargers and the integration of these systems at a site level. This leadership position will define and support a global portfolio of products that meet our customer’s needs, contribute to EPD’s Energy Transition Strategy, and drive the organization to maximize Caterpillar's value to Electric Power customers.

What you will do:

  • Drive product development and product improvement programs with process partners, including accountability for business case, product and sales support requirements management and value messaging

  • Acquire and process feedback from the Electric Power sales teams, dealers, and customers to define new product recommendations, requirements and product improvements

  • Provide product definition and functional/technical requirements to engineering teams for the development of new products

  • This position requires a person to communicate effectively across product, industry, dealer and/or customer audiences to gain understanding and acceptance of ideas and recommendations

  • Collaborate with design engineers and Technical Marketing to maximize the value of product development programs to the enterprise including driving favorable time to market, product cost and features, and early sales support

  • Provide technical direction to staff and support personnel engaged in product definition and technical sales support activities.

  • Collaborate and partner with Caterpillars Electrification + Energy Solutions division

  • Lead a team of 3-7 Engineers

Skills Required:

Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.

Extensive Experience:

• Facilitates creation of the 'right' products and services to resolve customer business issues.

• Anticipates customer needs, focusing efforts to proactively meet needs and exceed customer expectations.

• Communicates and models the criticality of customer focus as an organizational strategy.

Industry Knowledge : Knowledge of the organization's industry group, energy transition trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations. Experience working with one of the following; Fuel Cells, Energy Storage System (ESS), Hydrogen Infrastructure, Photovoltaic Systems (PV)

Level Extensive Experience:

• Educates others on own organization in terms of the industry - its market position, niche (if any), etc..

• Compares and contrasts the latest developments and emerging issues in the industry.

• Raises coworkers' awareness of industry standards, practices and guidelines.

• Explains the development of industry segments - trends, consequences, key issues.

Effective Communications : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Extensive Experience:

• Reviews others' writing or presentations and provides feedback and coaching.

• Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.

• Communicates well downward, upward, and outward.

Business Development: Knowledge of business development tools, techniques and approaches; ability to explore and develop potential areas of business growth for the organization.

Working Knowledge:

• Assists in developing new geographical areas for the organization's products or services.

• Researches approaches for exploring new business opportunities.

Additional Information:

  • This position will require minimum of 25% travel. including international

  • Domestic relocation is available for this role
