The Opportunity

Caterpillar’s Energy & Transportation (E&T) segment is looking for a Senior Accountant to join the team.

Our Energy & Transportation (E&T) segment has a broad portfolio of products and services - which include engines, generator sets, industrial gas turbines and locomotives, along with other related equipment depending on the industry and application. We deliver these products and services to Cat machine, oil & gas, power generation, transportation, and industrial customers. E&T is also developing the advanced power sources of the future and is working on many solutions to help our customers lower their carbon footprint.

This position will offer you the opportunity to provide financial planning, analysis, and reporting support to a fast-paced, innovative, and growing global organization. This role will encourage you to demonstrate and develop your communication, presentation, and financial analysis skills, along with providing avenues to interact regularly with senior management within Energy & Transportation and other groups throughout the enterprise.

What You Will Do:

  • Monthly/quarterly reporting and forecasting of Energy & Transportation Retail Statistics and Sales by Industry

  • Provide support for Energy & Transportation industry Operating and Execution Strategy Reviews

  • Financial analysis and reporting for the OPACC Improvement Agenda (OIA) including biannual OIA LOS reporting

  • Communicating effectively within the team and with internal customers and data providers, including presentations to all levels of management

  • Proactively interacting with internal customers to develop, understand and manage customer requirements and expectations

What You Have:

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent, and 8+ years of experience

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Processes large quantities of detailed information with high levels of accuracy

  • Productively balances speed with accuracy

  • Implements a variety of cross-checking approaches and mechanisms

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances

  • Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation

Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Advises others on a variety of financial tools, techniques and approaches

  • Conducts and documents analyses of a variety of financial statements and indicators.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgement.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas.

  • Participates in documenting data, ideas, players, stakeholders, and processes

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Reviews others' writing or presentations and provides feedback and coaching

  • Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Axiom (template creation / report generation) , Power BI (dashboard creation & maintenance), SAP: Business Planning and Consolidations – BPC (report creation) , SAP: BOBJ, Experience w/ SQL

  • Strong analytical, process improvement and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven record of strong initiative, leadership, accountability, change management and effective communication skills working with a global team.

Additional Information:

  • This position can be located in Peoria, IL or Irving, TX (preferred location)

  • This role is a full time, Hybrid position and currently requires 3 days a week in office

  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for those who qualify

  • Sponsorship is not available

  • International and Domestic travel up to 10%
