BAE Systems, Inc. is currently looking for an Accuracy Control & Metrology Manager to join our shipbuilding fabrication team at our Jacksonville Ship Repair business. This role will manage the application of statistical techniques to monitor, control and continuously improve work methods to reduce variation and maximize productivity. Responsibilities of this role include working with the proposal, planning and production teams; aligning fabrication execution strategies to meet dimensional control tolerances and other contractual commitments; and interacting with various teams to improve performance metrics. The selected candidate will advise shipyard Senior Leadership and Fabrication Program leaders of performance trends and methods to improve performance through accuracy control methodologies. Selected candidate will model strong leadership in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as well as ethics. Further, the selected candidate will be a leader in Environmental and Safety programs, ensuring team compliance with all company & OSHA-regulated safety requirements/standards, and environmental regulations and permit requirements.This role will report directly to the Fabrication Program Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the shipyard s adoption and application of statistical process control (SPC). Develop and leverage purpose-built control charts, planning sheets, check sheets and process capability analyses to improve cost, schedule and quality performance across the shipyard s shipbuilding and fabrication projects.

  • Be a key stakeholder in planning, estimating, and proposal development for emerging fabrication and shipbuilding work scopes. Be a leader in developing fabrication manufacturing plans, in close cooperation with other craft and program personnel, to ensure dimensional control tolerances are achieved.

  • Work closely with Fabrication Planners for the cooperative development of fabrication work packages.

  • Guide and ensure project performance through SPC. Formally document and share best practices and lessons learned, and ensure lessons are incorporated real time into ongoing projects as well as during proposal development for future projects.

  • Partner with Facilities Department personnel to closely integrate process monitoring plans with tooling and equipment preventive maintenance programs.

  • Take a leadership role in the Root Cause Analysis of negative performance trends in Fabrication work scopes.

  • Train all shipyard leaders and other key personnel to understand the principles of SPC and the value SPC brings to shipyards work quality and efficiency.

  • Report, fix and trend non-conformances.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings.

  • Review specifications and contract documents; understand the project work and the scheduling requirements of the contract.

  • Capture and follow through implementation of Operational Excellence initiatives.

  • Lead and facilitate discussions with internal and external customers as necessary to ensure commitments are achieved.

  • Solves complex technical problems by providing leadership for developing project plans and their implementation.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage a multi-tasked workload in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to detail, and proven problem-solving abilities.

  • People manager experience. This role will have direct report(s)

  • Responsible for training, hiring, performance development, evaluations and advancements of Department personnel.

  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Superior conflict management / conflict resolution judgement and soft skills.

  • Manages and provides direction and oversight to the Department personnel.

  • Manages time collection and time charging for direct reports and approve timesheets in accordance with BAE Systems Time Collection Policy.

  • Must be physically able to access and tour all spaces on board vessels and within the facility.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor s Degree and 6 years of experience or equivalent experience

  • Familiarity and experience with 3D coordinate measurement systems (CMS) such as those utilizing laser trackers and electronic theodolites.

  • Familiarity and experience using photogrammetry.

  • Identify risks and develop risk mitigation activities.

  • Knowledge of NAVSEA requirements

  • Advanced use of Microsoft Suite: Excel, Project, Power BI, Access, Power Point, Word, and Outlook

  • Proficiency in reading construction blueprints, drawings, and other technical references

  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group

  • Ability to facilitate group decision-making and conflict resolution

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant and consistent interaction with all departments and employee levels including customer.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Production leadership experience in the ship construction / ship repair business is strongly preferred.

  • People management experience

  • Lean Six Sigma certification

  • Familiar with NAVSEA & Local Standard Items, and other customer-specific requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of 4E work specifications

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $87700 - $149100

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
