BAE Systems SPMT Operator / Maintainer in Jacksonville, Florida
Job Description
As part of our BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair (JSR) team, you will be working alongside some of the industry's top talent on the forefront of technology. We are currently hiring for an experienced operator/maintainer to support heavy lifting and transport projects using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).
The SPMT Operator will be a key member of the JSR team and responsible for the execution of onsite operations and maintenance using SPMTs and rigging equipment. Working as part of the SPMT team, you will be responsible for the full life-cycle within a project, such as working to industry standards, following detailed RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) and engineering drawings, mobilization/demobilization of equipment and operating the SPMTs.
Travel Requirement: 10%
As a SPMT Operator, you will be responsible for:
Operating Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT s) in a safe and efficient manner.
Evaluate loads requiring movement on SPMT equipment and determine risk categorization.
Ensuring that all equipment is maintained and in good working order.
Inspecting SPMT s before and after each use to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
Loading and unloading cargo in a precise and controlled manner; understanding and demonstrating proper load securement for transport.
Communicating effectively with project managers, crew members, and clients.
Following all safety protocols and procedures.
Completing daily reports and maintenance logs.
Loading, unloading, assembling and disassembling assigned SPMTs and auxiliary equipment.
Operating equipment to the relevant standards and instructions.
Moving loads in line with project requirements.
Performing periodic preventative and routine maintenance.
Performing other related duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High School Diploma with at least 2 years of experience.
Required Qualifications:
A high level of experience (2 years) operating SPMTs or similar heavy transporters. Both on-site operations (to include performing basic maintenance, inspections etc.) and pre-operation planning, providing advice, guidance, and when required supporting Project Managers or Project Engineers in the engineering and planning stages of projects.
Must be able to read, understand and follow engineered drawings.
Ensuring work is carried out safely and effectively.
A valid driver's license and certification to operate SPMTs.
Basic understating of maintenance and repair work.
Experience of adjusting trailers to ensure equal load is spread throughout all axels and can adjust to suit the terrain.
Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations.
Experience troubleshooting fluid and mechanical systems.
Understanding of basic rigging and securing best practices.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
Strong attention to detail and precision.
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Evaluate loads requiring movement on SPMT equipment and determine risk categorization per Bechtel standards.
Work with Rigging/Transport Engineer to plan and execute loading/transport operation.
Must be able to read/understand transportation drawings for setup of SPMT equipment.
Understand and demonstrate proper load securement for transport.
Evaluate transportation routing requirements for adequate clearances and soil conditions.
Setup staging equipment for items to be self-offloaded.
Clean, maintain and inspect equipment for defective components and notify supervisor of any defects or malfunctions.
Perform assembly, disassemble and reconfiguration of SPMT equipment.
Understand and demonstrate working knowledge of hydraulic suspension, coordinate and valve/sensor assignment in accordance with engineered transport plans.
Assist crane and rigging crews with all tasks for site heavy equipment lifts and movements.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as well as a criminal record check.
Working Conditions:
Day Shift positions.
Able to stand for extended periods (8 hours min)
Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Training may be conducted on site and/or in Italy (SPMT factory)

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $44720 - $74360
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
