Job Description

BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair (JSR) is with a multi-ship land facility under construction. We are a leading Master Ship Repair facility with multiple drydocks supporting Department of Defense, private, and commercial maritme vessel modification, modernization, and repair. We are in need of an experienced Weld Program Administrator. The Weld Program Administrator will be responsible for overall weld skills training, record keeping, certification, welding surveillance and applicable process improvements for workers engaged in welding and structural fabrication.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality, and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.

  • Monitors welders, and NDT inspectors work and confers with them to maintain/improve specified standards and quality of welds.

  • Develops, reviews , and facilitates approval of weld procedures by NAVSEA, ABS, and other registrars.

  • Oversees workers-in-training in the operations of equipment in all welding disciplines.

  • Ensures that company objectives, policies, programs, and procedures and consistently adhered to.

  • Develop and adhere to cohesive welding training plans for new employees

  • Develop for approval weld procedure qualification (PQR) and follow on weld procedures (WPS)

  • Conduct welder performance qualification tests in accordance with applicable codes and standards

  • Develop and or modify existing Work Instructions for Welders using all known best practices

  • Audit technical aspects of production welding operation to maintain and improve quality and efficiency standards; pinpoint and solve problems.

  • Improve existing or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures

  • Establish recommendations for improved welder performance and follow through and manage projects for performance improvement

  • Document progress and give recommendation to management for employee development

  • Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre-and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, and welding of critical joints

  • Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes

  • Implement, coaching and training employees on welding procedure and technique changes

  • Will perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials

  • Plan and establish sequence of welding operations to fabricate and assemble products and promote efficient utilization

  • Effectively communicate welding manufacturing concepts, some of which are of a complex nature, to all levels from Operators to Management

  • Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rule and regulations

  • Perform safety, health, and environmental inspections; inspect equipment, and lead special projects as assigned.

  • Investigate and resolve safety issues

  • Responsible for continuous improvement in safety, quality and productivity and proactive in improvements; be able to provide documentation for improvement with before/after metrics that demonstrate

  • Other duties as assigned not limited to assisting with welding student recruiting efforts. Participate in industry-related activities such as attending conferences and seminars. As the welding industry evolves be aware of, and practice, the latest techniques and procedures by requiring them to enroll in continuing education classes offered by professional associations.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • 2 or- 4 year Degree in Engineering with 6-10 years experience in the ship repair industry with NAVSEA or Private Shipyard experience

  • Direct knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing methods VT, PT, MT in compliance with MIL-STD 271, American Bureau of Standards

  • Certifications as 9001:2015 Lead Auditor

  • Practical experience in Development and Approval of Weld Procedures to NAVSEA Standards in compliance with MIL-STD 248 and ABS Standards

  • Direct Knowledge of the requirements of MIL-STDs 1689/1688/278/22D for structural piping work aboard Naval vessels.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Development and implementation of Quality Management Systems per 9001:2015 standards

  • NDT Level III Certifications a plus

  • Knowledge of management and storage requirements for welding materials including level 1/Subsafe program requirements

  • Knowledge of Robotic Welding Techniques- and related requirements

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $71600 - $121700

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
