Aerojet Rocketdyne Quality Engineer in Jonesborough, Tennessee
Aerojet Ordnance Tennesse in Jonesborough Tennessee is seeking a Quality Engineer to support current and future production programs . This position will report to the Sr. Manager of Quality and will be part of an nine person team providing Quality Engineering expertise and Inspection support for the Jonesborough facility.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
80% - Develops and applies basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) techniques in review/release of manufacturing plans and inspection plans. Prevents quality compliance issues by collaborating with Technical teams in identifying and resolving product issues. Works directly with other departments to provide process analysis oversight on a continuing basis to enforce requirements and meet guidelines. May prepare specifications and process parameters; development of rationale for cost estimates; and other activities requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of responsibility. Pick out and order required gaging for program needs. Knowledge of SPC and other data in areas of responsibility and be able to initiate SPC requirement on new programs. Potentially perform supplier quality and vendor site visits. Preparation of written technical reports.
20% - Makes presentations to small audiences. Participates in open communication with the customer on quality issues. Assigns work and directs less senior engineering staff and support personnel as required.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline and two years of directly related experience as a quality engineer or associate engineer or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in an engineering discipline preferred but not required. Experience with programming and operation of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), inspection of machine components, and performing gage R&R studies preferred. Must possess effective, clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. Must have working knowledge of and experience with: Process Control Designs; Statistical Process Control methods; Project planning procedures pertinent to the particular area of responsibility; Statistical Analysis methods; reading and interpretation of blueprints, technical drawings and specifications. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Programs. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and relate effectively with all levels of employees with in organization. Must possess a valid driver's license.
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
