Hyatt Lead Bartender in KANSAS CITY, Missouri

Description:

Located in the Library District of downtown Kansas City, the Hotel Kansas City is located in the historic location of the Kansas City Club. Founded in 1882, the club was one of two surviving private city clubs on the Missouri side of Kansas City until it closed in 2015.

The Hotel Kansas City will bring back the exclusive feeling of the building's past, combined with the warm welcome of your favorite watering hole. In addition to the hotel's 144 guest rooms are the Town Company, a three-meal restaurant; a live music cellar cocktail bar; and a lobby lounge and bar that will bring locals and guests together for impromptu mingling. For the event-minded guests, there will be 20,000 feet of meeting space that includes impressive historic ballrooms and a 3,000 square foot rooftop event patio.

We will be home toKansas City’s first cellar bar with live music and craft cocktails. The room will pulsate with a variety of music offerings, local beers, carefully considered cocktails, and a hefty spirits selection. With seating up to 100 guests and a private nook for small groups, this restaurant plans to be a regular stop for Kansas City locals and visitors exploring downtown.

The culinary program is helmed by Executive Chef Johnny Leach, who arrives to Kansas City via Portland, Oregon. The bites will be meticulously crafted.

Job Overview

The Lead Bartender is a leadership position and will be responsible in supervising the day-to-day operations of the bar as well as assisting with the creative vision behind the beverage program.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Bartending while working closely with the GM/Beverage Director to uphold standards of service, culture, cleanliness, and overall efficiency of operations.

  • Beverage program development, implementation and evolution.

  • Build relationships with suppliers, vendors, makers, guests and the community.

  • Create sustainable programs that maximize our abilities to be effective humans.

  • Devise high-level training initiatives for all staff.

  • Lead and coach team towards achieving exceptional guest services and colleague satisfaction results.

  • Responsible for maintaining a high energy, positive, professional appearance.

  • Ability to take the initiative. To see concerns before they happen and work to solve them in advance.

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures to relate to the restaurant, as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations; maintain cleanliness and proper sanitation of all work and service areas.

  • Attend mandatory meetings.

  • Utilize traditional software programs such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and/or Outlook.

  • Keep work area clean and organized.

  • Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics which inspire colleagues to meet and exceed standards.

  • Other tasks/duties as assigned by GM/Beverage Director.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.

  • 4 year college degree preferred.

  • Must obtain Kansas City Liquor License.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years food and beverage experience, specifically with proven success curating and building successful bar programs and bar teams.

  • Food Service Sanitation certification.

  • CPR Certified required.

  • Considerable skill in math equations using percentages.

  • Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.

Interaction:

  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with guests and colleagues, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and to collect accurate information and to resolve problems.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

Work Environment

  • Ability to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously to perform essential job functions.

  • Ability to move up to 600lbs. with wheelchair assistance.

  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs. and to lift lighter objects overhead.
