BAE Systems Explosive Mechanic - Swing Shift in Kingsport, Tennessee

Job Description

BAE System is hiring a Shift Maintenance Mechanic in support of the explosives manufacturing facility at Holston Army Ammunition Plant located in Kingsport, TN. Primary duties of this role include first responder to emergent mechanical maintenance services on industrial equipment used in the manufacture of energetic materials. Equipment being serviced to include: pumps, piping, valves, gearboxes, agitators, material handling equipment, storage tanks, mixers, filtration systems, ventilation systems, and drying equipment. The base work schedule for this position is a 12-hr swing shift with some minimal overtime built-in to the base schedule for communication flow down at shift changes. Training for this role will be conducted on day and night shifts as required. OJT coupled with classroom training, lab exercises, and testing will be utilized to ensure effectiveness of training and abilities.

Duties include:

  • Learn to serve as a first responder to plant radios calls for immediate mechanical services support.

  • Learn processes for operational shutdown preparation and post maintenance shutdown turnover.

  • Become first responder to troubleshoot and repair chemical process equipment used in the manufacture of energetic materials.

  • Learn to prioritize service requests for timely completion.

  • Support manufacturing and laboratory operations with immediate mechanical service needs.

  • Completion of assigned work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.

  • Support day mechanics with rebuild of gearboxes, pumps (vacuum / centrifugal), and valve repairs / replacements.

  • Inspection and immediate repairs of process piping, steam piping (up to 300 lb service), water lines, hydraulic lines, and pneumatics.

  • Removal and disassembly of equipment for inspection, cleaning, service, or repair.

  • Setting of pumps, motors, process tanks, and equipment alignment.

  • Assist electrical and instrument shift maintenance personnel on nights and weekends.

  • Lock-out/tag-out and disable all energy sources for safe work on equipment.

  • Work independently and with limited after-hours or weekend support.

  • Adhere to all company policies, SOP's, departmental procedures, and Plant Protection Standards.

  • Effectively document specific details of work activities performed in an electronic shift maintenance log used in conjunction with a CMMS.

  • Accurate reporting for all labor hours for timekeeping system.

  • Utilize computer for completion of computer based learning assignments, email communications, and access of electronic reference materials.

  • Perform complicated duties or assignments involving a fairly comprehensive knowledge of equipment/materials and process to meet customer, quality, and performance standards.

  • Communicate effectively with other team members, supervision, Facilities management, engineering, and customer base.

  • Operate forklift and portable work platforms.

  • Utilize basic hand tools and powered tools in completion of job assignments.

  • Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment in emergencies or stressful situations.

  • Other duties as determined by immediate supervisor or chain of command.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Education: high school diploma or GED with 5 years minimal experience in an industrial maintenance role.

  • Experience: minimum of 5 years industrial maintenance experience

  • Skills: ability to work in a team environment and with other skilled craft groups; ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written communications.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Prior work experience maintaining equipment within a chemical or hazardous material production environment.

  • Associates degree in mechanical or electromechanical technology and/or completed DOL recognized industrial maintenance apprenticeship.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $44640 - $71460

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
