Eastman Materials Engineering Technologist in Kingsport, Tennessee

Responsibilities

The Materials Engineering Technologist provides support to the Materials Engineering Team by working in the Worldwide Engineering & Construction (WWE&C) Materials Engineering Laboratory.

In this role, you will perform:

  • Failure analysis laboratory work involving sectioning components (includes use of bandsaws, abrasive cutoff saws, angle grinders, etc.), metallographic sample preparation (polishing, etching, etc.), optical microscopy, etc.

  • Materials testing by microscopic analysis, hardness testing, collaboration with internal and external testing labs, etc.

  • Laboratory corrosion testing in accordance with ASTM standards requiring safe chemical handling and attention to detail when preparing chemical solutions and set-up of corrosion testing apparatus

  • Corrosion rack assembly and corrosion coupon analysis entailing detailed examination and measurement of coupons

  • Recording of corrosion testing results into a database. The Materials Engineering Technologist will also be responsible for ordering replacement components and equipment from vendors.

  • Maintenance of a clean laboratory environment and ensure the proper functioning of equipment

  • Field visits to inspect and analyze equipment in process areas

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field OR equivalent two-year certification or craft apprenticeship graduate required

  • Must have previous hands-on mechanical, electromechanical chemical or other manufacturing or industrial experience. 5+ years highly preferred.

  • Mechanical, electromechanical and chemistry inclination is strongly preferred

  • Strong hands-on capabilities are necessary

  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills

  • Organization and visualization skills

  • Willing to learn Eastman purchasing process and other computer-related job functions
