The Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, Indiana currently has an opening for a Maintenance Mechanic-A-V . An industrial maintenance mechanic includes the primary purposes of installing, maintaining, upgrading and fabricating machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in an industrial establishment. Perform all duties of general labor, pipefitter, and carpenter. This position will also perform the specific duties of a welder, such as arc welding, mig welding, tig welding, oxyacetylene cutting, and brazing.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Applicants who receive an interview must be proficient in welding and must pass a 6G-weld test prior to starting this position.

  • Applicant must possess a thorough understanding of welding equipment and processes Examples: stick, mig, tig & brazing, flux core & solid core wire.

  • Welding experience in the following materials would be helpful: 4130, 8620, various varieties of mild steel, aluminum & cast iron, and pipe. Applicant must be able to fit threaded and welded pipe.

  • Possess the ability to operate the following equipment: brake press, shear, band saw, forklift(s) up to 50K, wheel loader, skid steer, mobile crane, man-lift, hydraulic press etc.

  • Applicant must be able to read, understand and fabricate using prints, and work within tight tolerances.

  • Applicant should have an understanding of leveling and alignment of equipment, alignment of shafts, lubrication principles, pipe threading and fitting, and tube bending.

  • Applicant should possess basic electrical skills, advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate required tools to complete the repair or fabrication task.

  • Successful candidate must pass confined space training & maintain confined space certification.

  • Applicant’s direct day to day responsibilities will be maintenance, working with engineering teams, and general Central Shop duties.

  • Applicant must be willing to work overtime opportunities to support production demands.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have successfully completed an accredited weld training school or have extensive welding and fabrication experience.

  • Applicant should have previous alignment experience in machine tool, equipment (conveyor, cranes, etc.), and shaft alignment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Candidates for all positions must have the ability to work in a fast pace, medium to heavy duty assembly, technical environment.

  • Work may involve frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for 8+ hours.

  • All positions also require the ability to lift 40 pounds and withstand frequent repetitive movement of hands with a variety of tooling.

  • Must be able to work in heights and confirmed spaces

  • Location of this position is in Lafayette, IN

  • Shift: 2nd (3:00pm-11 :00pm) & 3 rd (11:00pm-7:00am)

Compensation & Benefits Offered!

  • Starting hourly pay rate of $31.48 plus 6% shift premium. Higher rates offered based on experience.

  • 40-hour work weeks with potential for Overtime

  • 18 days / 144 hours of paid Personal Time Off (PTO) - (Prorated based upon start date)

  • 11 Paid holidays - (Prorated based upon start date)
