The Construction Accounting Controller will support Industrial Operations with capital investment projects. This position provides strategic advice, financial accounting, and analytical guidance for Publix Industrial Operations, working specifically with the Industrial Construction/Industrial Maintenance teams. This includes all planned, unplanned, expense and capital investment projects.

Primary responsibilities include

  • oversee the construction accounting and analytical process for large industrial construction projects

  • manage financial accounting, interpreting how to correctly handle unique situations such as insurance loss recoveries and applying Publix fixed asset accounting process guidelines related to large scale construction projects and all other projects involving Industrial Operations resources or contractual agreements

  • keep timely and accurate project cost tracking, ensuring proper account recording and overall maintenance of the fixed asset additions recorded in the SAP Investment and Project Systems modules

  • work independently as subject matter expert in guiding Industrial Operations (IO) management in daily functions or special projects related to any of the IO business areas (Distribution, Manufacturing, Industrial Maintenance, etc.) throughout the year.

  • manage periodic preparation and/or review of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for support areas within Industrial Operations

  • account analysis and other projects as directed

Potential Annual Pay with Bonus:

81,640 - 123,110



Year End Bonus:

As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or another analytical discipline or its equivalent

  • at least (8) years of relevant business experience including some large scale project exposure

  • knowledge of accounting principles, general business practices and financial statements

  • intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • knowledge of/and commitment to quality improvement processes and methodologies

  • knowledge of the construction industry processes, terminology and accounting practices

  • researching skills and project management skills

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • problem solving and analytical skills

  • ability to work independently and to effectively prioritize workload by assessing needs and prioritizing tasks

  • strong task management skills

  • ability to demonstrate initiative by taking responsibility for learning new skills and processes

  • willingness to travel, with overnight stays, depending on workload

  • willingness to work extended hours

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA with concentration in Accounting or Finance

  • eight (8) or more years of construction accounting experience

  • three (3) or more years of associate supervision

  • five (5) years’ experience with SAP or equivalent software

  • CPA and/or CMA

  • knowledge of Publix’s Industrial Operations, IT, Distribution, Manufacturing, and support department functions or environments

  • knowledge of major Publix technology systems and the interrelationships of those systems

  • knowledge of Publix policies and guidelines
