The Publix Summer Internship Program prepares a cohort of young professionals for a smorgasbord of opportunity in the workplace through relationship building, development of self-confidence, and insight into industry knowledge.

Since the inception of the program in 2007, Publix empowers interns to share, lead, and implement their creative ideas, projects, and unique contributions towards our organization and the communities we serve.

Over the course of 10 weeks, interns are immersed in consequential department projects which allow them to apply academic concepts learned in the classroom to a real-world, corporate setting. The intern cohort participates in several exclusive events including meeting with Publix executives, volunteering in a local community service event, touring manufacturing and distribution facilities, and giving an end-of-summer presentation to Publix leaders. This summer, the program will occur from May 19 through July 25 at our company facilities in Lakeland, Florida. Interns are offered competitive pay and are generally expected to work onsite 40 hours per week, although this varies by department. Additionally, we partner with Florida Southern College to provide free housing for our out-of-town interns.

Position Overview

Talent Management supports Publix strategy and growth by using the principles of industrial/organizational psychology to create tailored talent management solutions in the areas of job design, talent selection and promotion, and skill and performance assessment. Within the department, the intern will have several responsibilities.

What you’ll do

  • develop position-specific job skill assessments and/or interview guides

  • assist in updates and content validation of existing job knowledge assessments

  • analyze workforce and staff-related trends and create summary reports, dashboards, or databases

  • participate in focus groups and assist with updates and enhancements to structured selection and promotion processes

Required Qualifications:

  • must be actively enrolled and pursuing a graduate degree in industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology, organizational development, or a related field as of the Summer 2025 semester

  • basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • knowledge of job analysis, selection and performance evaluation principles, theory, and methodologies and how to apply it to create successful business solutions

  • knowledge of basic statistical analysis and research design

  • knowledge of basic HR concepts

  • strong communication skills both verbal and written, including the ability to speak comfortably and confidently with groups at varying levels (i.e., peers, managers, executives)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • experience in developing assessment tools or experience working in Human Resources or related field

  • experience with the development of Power BI dashboards and/or Access databases
