Sr. Engineer - Electrical, Fresenius USA, Inc., a Fresenius Medical Care N.A. company, Lawrence, Massachusetts (Hybrid)

Purpose and Scope:

Responsible for leading electrical design projects, executing the building of prototypes, and pioneering research and development activities contributing to Fresenius. As a member of the R&D team, will initiate the design, concept, and formulation of pre-developmental projects and/or feasibility studies and work closely with the team to execute the project and to solve problems assigned to him by his manager.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert role at all stages from converting lab scale technology into a commercial medical product to supporting the released product.

  • Follow FDA/ISO Design Control principles and regulations in product development.

  • Write engineering inputs, develop test methods, perform root cause analysis, conduct DoE, write verification plan and test protocols, and execute.

  • Write DFMEA’s.

  • Author testing plans, engineering test reports, and position and/or white papers using good documentation practices

  • Act as a Project Leader for major projects assigned (concept through release).

  • Develop and establish detailed Design (engineering) input specifications to ensure product function, minimized patient risk and cost effective manufacturing.

  • Analyze and optimize component cost, manufacturability and design robustness.

  • Apply statistical methods in evaluating and determining design parameters/limits.

  • Assist in development of custom equipment to support small-scale product assembly and testing.

  • Provide assistance to manufacturing in establishing product fabrication facilities and procedures as part of Design Transfer. Maintain observation of production statistics to ensure production equipment and processes are effective. Provide technical support to other departments as assigned.

  • Provide mentoring and assistance to Engineer II and I level staff.

  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Education Experience and Required Skills:

Position requires either (i) a Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems or a closely related field and 7 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer or (ii) a Master’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems or a closely related field and 5 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer. Must also have 3 years of experience (which can have been gained concurrently with either of the primary experience requirements above) working with the following:

  • Medium to complex electronics board design including concept, requirements, schematic design entry, circuit simulation, PCB layout, board bring-up, troubleshooting and release to manufacturing;

  • Digital and analog (sensors, data acquisition, power systems) design;

  • Schematic and PCB design tools;

  • Microprocessor/microcontroller and FPGA based digital design;

  • High speed digital design/ impedance control applied to printed circuit board and cabling technology; and

  • Printed circuit board manufacturing process in effectively applying DFM and DFT.

Must be a strong problem solver over a wide range of complex electrical engineering problems.

This is a hybrid position requiring working from the office in Lawrence, Massachusetts 4 days each week and from home 1 day each week.
