Job Description:

The ADM soybean plant is seeking an Instrumentation and Electrical (I/E) Supervisor to oversee the development of instrumentation and electrical (I/E) technicians, guide the facility in continuous improvement efforts related to instrumentation and electrical equipment, ensure all instrumentation and electrical work at the plant meets current standards and oversee instrumentation and electrical contractor work on our site. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, this job is a “working supervisor” where expertise will be applied in the field alongside the team. The I/E Supervisor is expected to be subject matter expert and will be involved in the installation, maintenance, and improvement of I/E systems as well as the day to day operational activities of the oil seeds plant. The I/E Supervisor will work with the maintenance team to incorporate Reliability Centered Maintenance best practices in addition to utilizing Performance Excellence tools. This role reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the maintenance scheduler and production leaders to coordinate the work of the instrument and electrical team.

  • Providing expertise in plant instrumentation applications and trouble shooting.

  • Planning and coordination of projects, maintenance, and shut down work.

  • Training and development of instrumentation and electrical team members.

  • Assisting with training of other plant personnel in I&E activities; including the development of SOPs.

  • Utilization of CMMS (MAXIMO) to manage various maintenance activities, scheduling and parts inventory.

  • Auditing electrical contractor work groups for compliance with electrical and instrumentation standards.

  • Enforcement of compliance requirements (e.g. safety, GMP, environmental).

  • Proactive participation in the administration and development of plant safety and quality programs.

  • Communicating information and recommendations to key stake holders in management, production, and engineering utilizing various written and verbal methods.

  • Development and maintaining of 3-5 year I/E asset reliability plan for the plant.

  • Own developing, scheduling, and completing Inspection and Test Preventative Maintenance (ITPMs) on all instrumentation Critical Safety Devices (CSDs).

  • Maintaining and driving Asset Monitoring Systems (AMS) for the plant.

  • Utilizing problem solving methodologies to solve complex problems with high level countermeasures.

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates must have excellent time management and organization skills.

  • Be able to make decisions with limited knowledge to plan and accomplish goals.

  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

  • Strong instrumentation/electrical experience and demonstrable skills are required, including a working knowledge of diagnostic tools and understanding of applicable theories.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and experience managing conflict, addressing potential corrective actions related to processes and individual performance in a fair, honest, and direct way to effectively interact and engage with employees and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to work under time constraints, high attention to detail, a desire to learn, and a strong work ethic.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of industrial production and/or construction instrumentation experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience in an industrial setting.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with D3 distributed controls, Allen Bradley PLC’s, and Modicon control equipment.

  • Technical aptitude in instrumentation, electrical, and control systems required.

  • Experience/knowledge of AD/DC circuit theory, process instruments, electrical safety devices and requirements required.

  • Knowledge of production plant equipment & interaction with process controls & instrumentation preferred.

  • Familiarity with various electrical classifications including: Class 1 Division 1 Group B (Hydrogen); Class 1 Division 1 Group D (Alcohols), Including intrinsically safe wiring systems strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of HART instrumentation protocol preferred.

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required for training required.

The role is required to work in a plant environment and is expected to initiate work based on general instructions. The physical requirements of the job include climbing, lifting up to 55 lbs., prolonged periods of standing and/or sitting at a computer, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling and wearing a respirator when required. Must be open to working adjusted hours to address operational issues outside of standard work hours.
