JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for the daily oversight and management of the sales tax processes which include tax exemptions, refunds and monthly tax reporting. Position must be knowledgeable of tax laws in each Operating company to ensure compliance with these laws and to meet audit requirements. Job assignments include defining and assist in implementation of process and technical improvements to the sales tax functions to reduce backlog and ensure a positive customer experience for tax requests. Also, this position will be assigned to other diverse job duties such as data analysis, metrics setting and reporting along with data gathering and participating in operational initiatives and projects.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define protocols and requirements for data quality controls and ensures that all work tax related adheres to both state legislation and meeting SOX compliancy.

  • Approach work assignments with a continuous improvement mindset that will bring measurable improvements. Able to identify and implement new ideas and solutions without prompting and with minimum guidance; able to drive positive results.

  • Become sales tax expert on the utility tax processes and guidelines for all CCS jurisdictions.

  • Provide guidance and direction to internal groups involved in the tax functions, assisting them with questions and customer issues associated tax requests.

  • Support sales tax audits involving researching customer data, pulling and researching of tax exemption and invoice documentation.

  • Ensure the proper tax exemption documentation is current and up to date including the retention of the electronic documentation of tax certificates.

  • Work with internal customers when requested to answer tax questions, resolve issues, including the accurate coding accounts as tax exempt, creating certificates in Web Tool Kit and obtaining billing history on accounts.

  • Review and respond to regulatory and executive complaints.

  • Work with billing groups and Customer Service personnel as needed for tax related questions and requests.

  • Assist with sales tax and Taxware changes including testing as assigned.

  • Proactively communicate potential issues and/or changes with BSOS leadership to avoid further escalation.

  • Establish partnership with Tax department to ensure on-going communications

  • Communicate with Tax department and other internal work groups

  • Handle requests to pull data, specific to data analysis and other job responsibilities.

Minimum requirement required of the position

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Busines , Computer Science, or Management Information Systems or equivalent experience required.

  • MBA a plus

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 6+ years of related professional experience is required

  • Desire experience in Entergy systems -SAP/CCS, Taxware and Business Warehouse or Datacore

  • Desire experience in utility rates, billing, and SAP Utility Billing.

  • Excel and PowerBi reporting experience desired, with experience in retrieving and presenting data.

  • Analytical skill sets with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint familiarity and experience with Access and other databases for querying and analysis.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to build and lead teams.

  • Must have a demonstrated ability to communicate promptly and effectively (written and verbal).

  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with the Tax department and other teams both internally and externally including the Operating Companis.

  • Must exhibit strong planning, analytical, communications and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to operate independently or as a strong contributing member of a diverse group of technical and business personnel to achieve goals and objectives.
