The I O Engineer is responsible for a combination of production support and new project initiatives involving computer systems running the Windows Server operating system and related infrastructure. The I O Engineer will be required to administer Active Directory environment, deploy new servers, work with file structures, manage and monitor system performance and support a large community in a multi domain, multi-platform, multi-location environment. Both hardware and OS maintenance will be performed on production, development, QA, and training servers. Occasional Application support on large, complex medical patient information systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage, deploy, configure, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot windows servers and systems at an enterprise level, including Active Directory

  • Investigates and diagnoses problems, identifies and implements solutions, perform problem analysis to resolution

  • Create and maintain system and environment documentation and maintain hardware and software inventory

  • Review and respond to tickets for the System Administration team

  • Participate in preparing and testing the disaster recovery plan

  • Perform routine system maintenance of Windows Servers and related infrastructure

  • As part of an on-call rotation, provide 24x7 response and assistance for all urgent and related responsibilities

  • Provide problem management /resolution and engage in recommending /submitting /implementing proactive change requests to prevent problems from occurring based on trending analysis and business needs

  • Manage server security posture in compliance with corporate standards baselines and industry regulations

  • Participate in full ITIL-based methodology for Change Control, Problem Management, Service Management, and Capacity Management

  • Supports practices, policies, and operating procedures and ensures alignment to departmental objectives and strategy

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with cross-functional groups and customers

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills. Ability to interact positively with teammates at all levels of the company. Ability to work effectively with and lead vendors

  • Willing to work outside of normal responsibilities and identify change processes as required

  • Must be willing to take ownership of all assigned projects and tasks

  • Solid analytical skills. Familiar with industry standards and conventions, tools, and utilities

  • Demonstrated organizational, attention-to-detail, reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Self-starter with high degree of initiative, urgency, and follow through

  • Must be flexible, resourceful, and able to resolve issues while maintaining a sense of urgency

  • Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills including ability to listen actively and to communicate information clearly and effectively

  • Individual contributor in a hands-on role and participate in projects

  • Improve work practices and methods

  • Ability to work effectively with cross function teams and vendors

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent I O Engineering experience and educational combination

  • 3+ years of experience with Enterprise level System Administration

  • 3+ years of experience with Windows Server 2008/2012R2/2016

  • 3+ years Active Directory Management and Group Policy application

  • Experience with Storage technologies - NAS /RAID /SAN

  • Virtualization Experience - VMware ESX

  • Security Operations experience with Encryption /Certificates /IPSec /TLS /SSL Security standards; Encryption protocols Public + Private Certificates /IPSec /TLS

  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Server technologies and of infrastructure configuration; DNS /WINS /DHCP /DFS /SMTP /LDAP /Telnet

  • Solid knowledge of system troubleshooting based on application and system logs

  • Exposure to Microsoft licensing solutions

Job Conditions:

  • Job hours may exceed 40-hour work week in the event of project deadlines or outages

  • Occasional work outside of normal office hours

  • May require some travel to other regions

  • Moderate to high job pressure may occur in relation to quick turnarounds for some projects or daily activity

Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, or New York City Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada/New York City residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
