Responsibilities
As the Area Manager – Centralized Planning & Scheduling and Mechanical Maintenance Services at Eastman’s Longview site, you’ll work in the Plant Maintenance Department (PMD) as a second-level manager, serving as the single point of contact for all centralized planning, scheduling, and mechanical maintenance needs within the Operating Division’s asset base. The Area Manager (AM) is responsible for teams in Planning, Scheduling & Materials Management, Fabrication Shop, Machine Shop (including Millwrights) and Preventative Maintenance.
The AM must be skilled at developing, prioritizing and executing tactical plans to support the needs of both the maintenance team and the manufacturing division. The AM must also be skilled at making choices and implementing plans that support the strategic needs of the workforce and that drive long-term productivity improvements without compromising safe and reliable operations.
Personnel reporting directly and indirectly to the AM typically include maintenance team managers (first-level supervisors), planners, schedulers, skilled craftworkers (such as Machinists, Millwrights, and Welders) and other support staff.
Responsibilities
Ensure the safe execution of work by our Centralized and Area Maintenance Teams through effective planning, scheduling and materials management
Oversee the development and implementation of high-quality Job Plans and Packages to ensure correct execution of work the first time, minimizing rework
Foster the development of skills and capabilities in team members by encouraging a culture of learning and providing opportunities for personal and professional growth
Optimize efficiency, productivity and cost control in the planning, scheduling and execution phases of maintenance activities
Foster EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) engagement, particularly in the field and in the areas of personal safety, process safety and compliance
Maintain a clear focus on creating a highly reliable organizational culture and the elimination of unplanned events by implementing reliability and maintenance services and solutions
Thoughtfully engage in and complete the requirements of the Performance Management Process for direct reports which is leveraged to support meaningful opportunities for leader/employee engagement. This includes coaching and career development.
Assess and develop the centralized maintenance teams’ technical problem-solving capabilities
Implement and provide on-going support of the maintenance procedure use policy at the facility
Ensure all maintenance procedures include a hazard assessment indicating safety, health and environmental considerations and control measures to prevent contact or exposure
Listen to ideas and concerns and advocate for the team during “review and adjust” cycles
Develop effective networks with partners across the aligned operating division and PMD to understand and prioritize tactical and strategic needs
Qualifications
Bachelor (BS) or Master’s (MS) degree in Science, Engineering or Engineering Technology or related field
At least 3 years of experience in engineering, maintenance or related field
Preferred Experience
5+ years of direct supervisory experience in a chemical/petrochemical manufacturing environment, ideally supporting frontline teams within a maintenance function highly preferred
2+ years’ planning and/or scheduling of refinery or petrochemical equipment
2+ years’ experience and knowledge in welding, machining and/or millwright work execution
Experience improving safety culture and results across an area/team
Demonstrated leadership abilities, including experience leading individuals and teams indirectly
Depth of knowledge in maintenance and manufacturing work processes
Experience facilitating and resolving complex human resources issues
Familiarity with change management concepts
Ownership and successful completion of complex and/or large-scale projects
Self-motivated to drive improvement; passionately lead change
Effectively plan, organize and delegate
Remain calm and rational in stressful situations; make decisions under uncertainty
Model high integrity: being honest, fair and trustworthy in all relationships
Give timely, constructive and direct feedback to help others improve
