Roles and Responsibilities

The Process Design Engineer will play a crucial role in our organization by leveraging your in-depth knowledge and expertise in operations, process technology (particularly in Methanolysis or PET polymer chemical processes), capital processes, and process safety. Your insights and guidance will contribute to project success, process improvements, and overall project performance. This role will interface with Eastman Technical and operations organizations as well as external engineering service providers. This role will also follow the project from the FEED through start up, be responsible for the project P&ID’s, PFD’s, and HMB’s as well as lead key process safety design activities.

Responsibilities

Expert Knowledge and Insights: • Provide accurate and up-to-date information related to chemical processes and integration of process improvements. • Support & communicate documented lessons learned related to the Methanolysis chemical processes, equipment design, safety protocols, and project execution • Key participant in all process safety development items including all PHA related activities including process change management/MOC and plant pre-startup safety planning. • Collaborate with various teams to ensure the accuracy and relevance of process scope and data as applicable to the project.

Process Improvement: • Identify potential areas for process enhancement and recommend changes to improve asset performance as well as overall costs. • Conduct thorough research to stay informed about Kingsport process developments and highlight lessons learned as applicable into the project • Develops, reviews, and recommends process improvements in accordance to the project schedule and freeze dates. • Participates and provides input into plot layouts, 3D model reviews, PHA’s, and other engineering deliverable discussions.

Training and Leadership: • Share technical insights to help achieve team objectives effectively. • Participate in or lead training sessions, webinars, and workshops. • Liaise with the Manufacturing Director to support development of operational readiness program and training programs

Project Oversight: • Define project outcomes and establish standards. • Ensure project outcomes align with specifications and standards. • Provide oversight of the process scope of work at the engineering service providers • Participate in audits as required.

Collaboration: • Work closely with a cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Manufacturing, EHS, and Technology, this will include substantial time working at the E&C for detailed design activities. • Collaborate with stakeholders to address project needs and identify chemical process/technology issues • Collect, Review, and maintain freeze dates in accordance to the project schedule

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Chemical Engineering • Minimum of 15 years in chemical process engineering or technology role • Masterful knowledge of chemical processes, equipment, and related technologies, Proven experience as a Chemical Process SME • Capable of facilitating or strongly supporting hazops, LOPA’s, and SIS strategies. • Strong analytical thinking skills and attention to detail. Ability to dissect complex situations and extract meaningful insights. • Excellent communication and leadership abilities. • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast paced environment • Must be able to travel as needed based on project needs
