BAE Systems Industrial Controls Engineer in Louisville, Kentucky
BAE Systems is looking for a collaborative Industrial Controls Engineer to support our production processes at the Louisville, KY facility. The Principal Industrial Controls Engineer will be responsible for indirect management of technical maintenance technicians as required and for providing leadership in the maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrading of machine controls. In addition, the Principal Industrial Controls Engineer will manage the design, implementation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of complete control systems, including but not limited to PLC controls, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), and associated communication networks for process control and/or monitoring applications.
As a Principal Industrial Controls Engineer, you will be the primary point of contact for controls related issues and provide leadership of day-to-day execution of troubleshooting and upgrading machine controls to maintain scheduled production at the facility. You will help prevent machinery downtime and ensure our Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) communicate with our Numerical Control (CNC) machines. You will write procedures for to recover CNC machines from different faults and train maintenance techs and machinists on those procedures. You will serve as a subject matter expert for acquisition of new machines and refurbishing old machines.
The Principal Industrial Controls Engineer will be key to supporting our overall factory manufacturing growth strategy to increase production output. In this role, you will be a vital leader within our factory aligned with one of our fastest growing business lines.
This position supports production and includes on-call support for occasional evening / weekend support.At BAE Systems (https://youtu.be/lsRw_47Ma3E) , we believe in work-life balance and this position can be worked with a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off or a 4/10 schedule.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Prior work experience in a complex production facility, e.g., producing multiple products in multiple ways
Experience integrating devices from multiple vendors into a complete system solution
Experience with variable speed drives, positioners, actuators, valves, and instrumentation used for chemical or industrial plant production processes
Knowledgeable in industrial network architectures, topologies, cyber security, servers, software validation and simulation
Experience with Seimens required; preferably also experience with Fanuc, controllers from Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley, PCS7, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, TCP, and HART
MCC (motor control center) management software, such as Siemens Simocode
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Controls Engineering preferred.
NX CAM / CAD programming is preferred.
Process improvement experience preferred.
Writing standard work procedures preferred.
