BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) is looking for a Communications Intern in our Lynchburg, VA location !

At BWXT, we employ nuclear technology to solve some of the world’s most important problems. Our Communications team is looking for an intern who’s passionate about connecting and inspiring people. This team member will develop content and channel strategies to engage BWXT employees throughout North America. They will collaborate extensively with team members across human resources, information technology, operations, and other functions to drive culture change and accelerate priority projects across the company.

Duration - based on school schedule: Starting part-time at the beginning of May, turning full-time over the summer, and returning to part-time when school restarts

Responsibilities:

  • Team with partners across the communications organization to develop plans and content to include messages from leaders, feature stories, posters, digital graphics, executive bios and video in support of BWXT campaigns.

  • Effectively counsel and influence stakeholders in communications best practices, providing recommendations on messaging, channel and media.

  • Draft and develop communications deliverables in support of campaign objectives.

  • Support other Communications campaign leaders – both internal and external – in developing and delivering communications tactics

  • Build and execute measurable communications programs aligned with business priorities.

  • Liaise with counterparts in marketing, public relations and external communications to ensure consistency of messaging, share deliverables and serve as information conduit communications team.

Education and Experience:

  • Rising university Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related area.

  • Earliest acceptable graduation is spring 2024.

  • 1 year of relevant coursework in corporate communications, public relations, marketing, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Must be a United States citizen with no dual citizenship.

  • Ability to write and edit clear, engaging, and grammatically correct content; willingness to be coached.

  • Action-oriented and curious individual who demonstrates collaboration and strong emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detail-oriented individual with exceptional organizational and time management skills.

  • Computer and software knowledge, including database management and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Knowledge of SharePoint and M365 platforms a plus!

The base pay rate for this position in Virginia at the start of employment is expected to be between $18.50 and $32.25 per hour. However, the base compensation rate offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
