Job Title: Contractor - Materials Subject Matter Expert 3-6 Months

Our Advanced Technologies (AT) group is at the forefront of research and development, focusing on innovative nuclear reactors, advanced nuclear propulsion systems, and radioisotope-powered technologies for a diverse range of internal and external clients.

BWXT is currently seeking a Temporary Subcontractor to serve as a Materials Subject Matter Expert. This position will play a pivotal role within our Advanced Technologies team, contributing to various nuclear development projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for creating and managing material property handbooks, which will entail determining temperature-dependent material properties for both design organizations and testing campaigns.

Job Description / Duties:

Description

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to compile existing material property data for metals, ceramics, and composites.

  • Develop, design, and compile material property data into a cohesive and accessible handbook for distribution to design teams.

  • Identify and recommend necessary testing campaigns to address material property gaps.

Job Qualificiations / Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.

  • A minimum of four 6 years of experience (TBD) + PhD (10 total).

  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are required.

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required.

  • Must be self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.

  • Strong commitment to safety culture and willingness to ensure compliance to all codes and standards is required.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Experience

  • Foundational understanding of thermal and mechanical property testing for inorganic materials (metals, ceramics, composites, etc.) at elevated temperatures.

  • Familiarity with MS Word formatting techniques to present technical information clearly and effectively.

  • Previous experience in writing material property handbooks or technical documentation is highly desirable.

  • Strong attention to detail.

Pay: $[[custsalaryMin]] - $[[custsalaryMax]]

The base salary range for this position in [[stateProvince]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[custsalaryMin]] and $[[custsalaryMax]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
