American Family Insurance - Corporate Lead Corporate Attorney - Privacy in Madison, Wisconsin
You will provide proactive legal services to the corporation, its subsidiaries, and divisions to safeguard the corporation's rights and assets. You will ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and charter provisions that impact operations and policies. You will deliver effective legal representation, either directly or by retaining and supervising outside counsel, for the corporation. You will typically specialize in a specific area of corporate law such as product, mergers and acquisitions, financial transactions, employment/benefits law, etc. This role requires advanced legal knowledge and experience in highly visible, complex legal situations. You may lead projects or programs and provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members. You will report to a legal director.
In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110.

Position Compensation Range:
$128,000.00 - $216,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.
Certain geographic locations may qualify for a salary range of $144,000 to $243,000 Yearly.
Primary Accountabilities
Supports the Privacy Office, IT Security and relevant areas of the business regarding privacy and cyber issues, including current and emerging legal and regulatory requirements and best practices, risk assessment and management, incident response, and regulatory reporting. Identifies gaps in corporate policies and practices related to privacy and data security and works on addressing those gaps.
Works collaboratively across the organization to support the privacy and cybersecurity programs and establishes appropriate relationships with responsible members of affiliate companies to ensure coordinated and appropriate responses to incidents, issues, and opportunities in the privacy and cyber space.
Analyzes and applies in-depth knowledge of state and federal laws, and corporate policies related to information security and privacy including the FCRA and its application to financial institutions; privacy laws, including GLBA and state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA) and online and mobile privacy laws, including consumer notice and disclosure requirements; and NYDFS cybersecurity regulation and the NAIC Data Security Model law.
Translates complex privacy and data security related laws and regulations into technical and operational legal requirements while working closely and coordinating with privacy, information security and technology team
Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
Demonstrated experience providing legal guidance in highly complex/highly visible situations.
Demonstrated experience identifying complex legal and strategic business issues and providing practical legal analysis and advice.
Advanced legal analytical skills and knowledge of complex legal concepts.
Demonstrated experience to communicate with tact, diplomacy, and persuasiveness.
Admitted to the state bar in the state where they are located or (1) admission to the bar within one year of hire for individuals who must pass a bar exam or portions of a bar exam to be admitted or (2) bar admission as soon as practicable but no later than 60 days of hire for individuals with diploma privilege or who are eligible for in-house counsel registration.
Additional Knowledge & Skills
- Previous experience providing advice related to AI governance and AI regulation beneficial.
Education
- Juris Doctor.
