We are searching for the best talent for a Principal Scientist, Automation to be in Malvern, PA.
Purpose: The Laboratory Automation & Robotics team is recruiting for a Principal Scientist, Automation for the orchestration of an automated lab. The candidate will lead development, and implementation of end-to-end laboratory automation workcell systems to drive analytical method development. This role is based in Malvern, PA but may also involve work at other J&J sites. You will leverage scientific and robotic systems expertise to lead the design and implementation of laboratory automation solutions for various proteins and cell therapy analytical workflows, such as antigen binding, molecular, cell-based, and flow cytometry. You will collaborate with IT, Data Science, Integration Team, Assay Automation, Assay Development and end-users to drive hands-free automation implementation. You will play an integral role in accelerating biotherapeutics development by building solutions to improve throughput/capacity, while reducing hands-on time and time-to-result.
You will be responsible for:
Lead the design, development, and implementation of hands free, orchestrated end-to-end analytical automation and data flow (Driven by Biosero Orchestrator/Green Button Go®)
Collaborate with IT, Assay Automation, Engineering, and Methods Development to influence and align on system infrastructure, components, and workflow orchestration
Collaborate with Laboratory Operations, Data Science, and IT to lead automated data flow within the orchestrated solutions
Optimize automated systems, expand capabilities, and support technical investigations
Lead automated process/methods qualification, and operator training activities
Collaborate with automation team members to support or maintain automated systems as needed
Implementation/integration and support of automated storage systems.
Knowledge transfer and cross-training
Ensure data integrity through accurate and timely data capture/entry into appropriate systems
Qualifications:
Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent is required. Advanced Degree is preferred.
Required:
BS/MS with a minimum 12 years of relevant work experience OR PhD with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
Experience leading development and implementation of automated laboratory workflows or high-throughput methods within the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry; this includes data systems integration, configuration, and whole lab orchestration
Experience designing, programming, operating, and troubleshooting end-to-end integrated automation systems, such as Biosero, HighRes® Biosolutions, Hamilton, Azenta, or Thermo Scientific™
Experience with storage, device and data systems integrations
Ability to identify/understand sophisticated customer needs, influence peers and organization, and help craft automated solutions for laboratory workflows
Experience leading evaluation and implementation of new and novel technologies
Experience with biological or biochemical assays, including migration of bench techniques to automated systems
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills (both written and oral), with the ability to closely collaborate with scientists, vendors, and external teams
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
Preferred:
Experience with laboratory automation engineering and data flow experience is preferred.
Prior experience working with lab automation systems in GxP environments, including background with systems validation and regulatory compliance.
Experience with various programming languages, such as Python, Visual Basic, C, C++, etc.
Experience with analytical method development
