The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Product Engineer in 3M’s Paint Finishing Systems group, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Lead many aspects of a product’s change management process (CMPs) including: Project management, formulation / technical leadership, validate product performance against specifications, and coordinate with manufacturing to validate manufacturing capabilities
Initiate and lead product improvements projects such as raw material substitutions, new product localization, packaging, improved sustainability, and cost reduction opportunities
Support new product development projects by establishing raw material specifications, documenting test methods, initiating qualification plans, validating product claims, etc
Maintain a close relationship and communication with key vendors and manufacturing sites
Develop strong product and process understanding of products including quantitative and qualitative approaches
Document and implement product specifications and process standards
Take ownership to resolve and prevent product quality issues
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in an Engineering, Chemistry or Material Science discipline from an accredited institution
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a private, public, government or military environment in product engineering, product development, and/or technical product support
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Master's degree or higher in Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science based curriculum
Three (3) years or more of product commercialization or project leadership experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Knowledge of industrial abrasives, solvents, surfactants, emulsion, and/or mineral technologies
Experience translating voice of customer into product specifications, introducing new products, manufacturing scale-up or project management
Experience working with global cross-functional teams and presenting to stakeholders
Work location:
- Hybrid Eligible. Job duties allow for some remote work but require travel to 3M Center in Maplewood, MN at least 3 days per week
Travel: May include up to 15% domestic & international
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $95,825 - $117,120, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
