Job Summary

Lead day-to-day operations of the plant in the production of high quality products that provide value to customers and a return to shareholders. Lead in a manner that results in a cohesive, focused, positive climate to achieve organizational goals on all shifts. Provide guidance to operating supervisors and support personnel to achieve short term and long term plant performance. Serve as the incident commander in the event of a plant emergency.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the plant in the production of high quality products that provide value to customers and a return to shareholders.

  • Encourage employees to work safely with environmental awareness and good manufacturing practices in mind.

  • Require safety and health compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Utilize assets efficiently to meet production and quality goals.

  • Lead in a manner that results in a cohesive, focused, positive climate to achieve organizational goals on all shifts.

  • Provide guidance to operating supervisors and support personnel to achieve short term and long term plant performance.

  • Interacts directly with Department Leadership to produce desired operational results and employee development.

  • Serve as the incident commander in the event of a plant emergency.

  • Assure training and development of all employees.

  • Coordinates and follows through on personnel issues that arise on shift.

  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (Preferred)

  • 2-3 years’ experience in direct supervision of people

  • Demonstrates extremely strong commitment and leadership in plant safety programs

  • Strong operating knowledge of plant operations of one or more departments of a corn plant

  • Strong understanding of process control systems and other computer systems

  • Computer proficiency and basic knowledge of DCS and PI Software as well as Microsoft Office products and email.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership under a wide variety of conditions

  • Excellent ability to provide clear direction and to recognize and respond to shifting priorities based on the needs of the plant and the resources available

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

  • High energy level and clear customer focus emphasis

  • Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict; motivating, instructing, and training personnel in a fair, honest, and direct way

  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships to enable the achievement of results over time

  • The scope of the position may have exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.

  • Inside areas:

  • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees

  • Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.

  • Outside areas:

  • Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.

  • Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below. May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.

  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs from waist to shoulder on an occasional basis

  • No push/pull requirement

  • Must be able to walk 1-3 hours

  • Must be able to sit 5-8 hours

  • Must be able to squat/kneel on an occasional basis

  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders on an occasional basis

  • Constant computer/keyboarding
