Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Technologist supports Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Maintenance teams and coordinates technical evaluation efforts on assigned projects. This position is responsible for monitoring and improving the reliability of the manufacturing processes as well as the qualification of new or improved raw materials. Additionally, the Manufacturing Technologist leads new product trials and facilitates knowledge to Manufacturing and Quality organizations by creating written procedures and providing hands-on training as needed
Addresses basic to in-depth support on production and quality issues, including but not limited to, web handling, coating technologies and roll winding
Performs advanced troubleshooting, including hands-on interaction with production operators and supervisors as well as preparation of technical reports to document the solutions
Prepares test methods and standard operating procedures
Provides training for machine operators/supervisors to better implement new test procedures and standard operating procedures
Prepares machine deviations as required by the process
Actively participates as a project team member as part of the Product Development process
Participates as a team member in evaluation & qualifications of raw materials
Engages & works closely with various problem-solving teams
Interacts with responsible departments at Eastman to resolve issues and provide proper feedback to the customer and continuous product improvement
Occasional travel to customer/supplier facilities, as required, by project or product development needs
Supports 24/7 operations by being available by phone for support or off-hours call-in on occasion
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Science or Engineering preferred; technical training & experience considered in lieu of a degree
At least 3 years of minimum manufacturing experience required
Must be willing to work an evening (2nd shift) schedule for extended periods of time
Ability to work alternate schedule, such as weekends or night shift when necessary to support trials, new product development or troubleshooting
Previous project leadership/manufacturing leadership experience is preferred
Deep understanding of coating & laminating machines and manufacturing processes preferred
Capable of working independently and making sound decisions while working with shift crews
Ability to create and share technical reports & presentations to colleagues and management
Proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements
High troubleshooting and problem-solving acumen
The ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and prioritize work
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate at all organizational levels
Excellent written and oral communication skills
