Description

Laboratory Technician in the Performance Films R&D Technology group located in Martinsville, VA for Eastman Chemical Company. The position will have responsibility for supporting applications and product development scientists that innovate in the automotive and architectural markets. The focus applications will be in solar control films and paint protection films. Candidate must be flexible, proactive, and professional and should be able to communicate effectively and function in an innovative, fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring compliance with safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and quality standards during product development and testing activities.

  • Product Development: Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and improve new products, formulations, or applications based on customer requirements and market trends.

  • Testing and Analysis: Conducting laboratory experiments and tests to evaluate the performance, quality, and properties of materials, products, or formulations.

  • Process Optimization: Identifying opportunities to optimize manufacturing processes, such as formulation, mixing, coating, or application techniques, to enhance product performance and efficiency.

  • Troubleshooting: Investigating and resolving technical issues related to product performance, application methods, or customer inquiries to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyzing and interpreting experimental data, generating reports, and communicating findings to cross-functional teams, management, or customers.

  • Technical Support : Providing technical assistance and support to customers, sales teams, or manufacturing teams regarding product applications, troubleshooting, or process optimization.

  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of experiments, formulations, test results, and other relevant documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.

  • Continuous Learning and Development: Staying updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific advancements through training programs, conferences, and self-directed learning.

  • Collaboration: Collaborating with internal teams, such as research scientists, engineers, marketing, and sales, to support product development projects and address customer needs effectively.

  • Candidate will be expected to develop hands-on and in-depth technical expertise with a variety of laboratory techniques and equipment. Must work safely and promote a safe work environme nt.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Associates Degree/Technical Diploma or equivalent internal work experience.

  • Formal training in general laboratory procedures and safety protocol, R2R processing, and mixing experience.

  • Problem solving, analytical and application testing equipment, and conducting internal pilot and production trials.

  • Working knowledge of production processes and good laboratory skills are essential.

  • Experience with film construction and applying optical coatings.

  • High initiative and the ability to work in a team setting across teams, sites, and divisions.

  • Clear and effective written and oral communication is essential.

  • General computer experience with standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
