This opportunity is for an engaged life-scientist/toxicologist with experience in computational toxicology/modeling who will provide safety support for skin and personal care products in the Global Product Stewardship (GPS) Beauty Care organization in all stages of development and who will complement the expert community of the broader safety organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • This role involves supporting current and future core Skin & Personal Care product categories as well as acquisitions, C&D projects within the Beauty Care organization.

  • The individual will be responsible for owning product safety assessments including in-vitro and alternative risk assessment methods.

  • This includes support for finished products and technologies, and to address global regulatory toxicology and perceived safety questions.

  • The individual will lead assessment of new products, formulas, and ingredients, identify data gaps, and design safety programs based on clinical/new approach methods (NAMs) or discern when existing data are sufficient and communicate guidance proactively to customers.

  • The individual will manage in-market safety questions/issues, collaborating with different functions e.g. GSSA, QA, Legal and R&D/PS/Commercial partners. A responsibility of the role will also be to contribute to external defense of key substances through industry associations. Experience in computational modeling, machine learning, data science and programming is a plus as it can contribute to simplification and automation efforts. Individual will work with experts in the field of digital technologies or AI collaborating on research projects, joining interdisciplinary teams, or participating in toxicology-related projects that incorporate digital tools or AI. This interdisciplinary expertise can enhance toxicological research, risk assessment and decision-making processes.

Job Qualifications

Required

  • PhD in Toxicology, Life Science, Pharmacology, or related field.

  • Technical mastery in toxicology, NAMs and product safety/risk assessment

  • The individual in this role must be able to independently formulate logical and data-based safety positions, to communicate them clearly and manage questions in real time or discern when escalation is needed.

  • Creative thinking and smart risk taking is essential to re-apply knowledge and principles when new product forms need to be assessed.

  • Proactive and agile project leadership, trouble shooting, and solution driving skills will contribute to success in this assignment.

  • In this role the individual has an excellent opportunity to understand risk assessment procedures, develop digital automation tools and to further develop skills in communicating results to management and to achieve mastery in supporting product safety in a global arena.

  • Excellent communication skills are needed to convey positions clearly and explain complex technical issues in a manner suitable to a variety of internal customers. The individual needs to collaborate effectively and build strong relationships with a variety of partners.

  • A strong sense of ownership is needed to develop and convey robust, principle-based positions while respecting questions or ideas from others

  • The candidate in this role needs to become adept at utilizing company systems, particularly GPS-owned systems. This includes an understanding of the initiative process, timelines and when/how to provide Safety positions to guide teams proactively.

Preferred

  • Experience in computational toxicology/modeling, machine learning, computer programming or data science. The individual must have strong judgment, creative thinking skills and a flexible mindset. Ongoing capability building by the individual is expected.
