Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. Position is located in Melbourne, Florida.

Essential Functions: Seeking a challenging opportunity?

This exciting role supports an operational program environment by developing new capabilities, testing, troubleshooting, and resolving problems/anomalies through leadership within an agile team. You will become the subject matter expert for various subsystems of the aircraft and contribute to the overall design of the software.

  • Requires experience in safety critical software and an understanding of the DO-178 guidelines.

  • Provide leadership in all facets of the software design, development, and integration life cycle for software.

  • Analysis of change requests and requirements for a new software support capabilities, software, COTS/GOTS integration, implementation of software using C++, python scripts, and other programming tools.

  • Interact with management, external personnel and/or customers; therefore, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential.

  • Collaborate with various sub teams to integrate functionality with other IPTs; actively participate in code reviews and supporting full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software.

  • Opportunity to act as team lead working closely with the customer.

  • Work with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototyping, and designing complex solutions supporting the building and test plan execution, performing quality reviews, and triaging and fixing operational issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 9-years of software engineering experience OR a Master's Degree in (STEM) with 7-years of software engineering experience OR a PhD Degree in (STEM) with 4-years of software engineering experience

  • Experience developing software/writing code in C/C++ and/or other OOP languages

  • Experience with safety critical software systems and DO-178B.

  • Experience with VxWorks

  • At minimum, an active DoD Interim Secret clearance is required to apply and to start on Day-1, with the ability to obtain and maintain a full DoD Secret level clearance and program access (PAR) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering

  • Software Lead Experience

  • Experience in Ada

  • Experience working with supplier side software, and multiple software baselines.

  • Experience with the Atlassian tool suite with add-ons such as JIRA, Git, and Confluence

  • Experience with the Agile software development process
