Pfizer Manager in Memphis, Tennessee

This position is responsible for reviewing complex corporate state income and franchise tax returns, including state modifications and apportionment calculations, extensions, nexus analysis, and electronic filing of state tax returns.

This position is responsible for preparing complex amended corporate state income and franchise tax returns and quarterly estimated payments.

This position is responsible for ASC 740 income tax accounting related to US state current and deferred tax expense calculations performed on a quarterly and annual basis, including calculating and monitoring state deferred tax assets and valuation allowances. Position is responsible for sign-off to State Director of all state deferred tax assets and valuation allowance and state current tax expense accounts.

This position is responsible for supporting and advancing the Global Tax Department's objectives of developing and maintaining a high-performance environment which maximizes personal development and growth of colleagues, and promotes inclusiveness, trust, and teamwork.

State Tax Accounting and Compliance

  • Responsible for ASC 740 income tax accounting for US State Deferred Tax Assets ("DTAs") and State Valuation Allowances, including signoff to State Director of state deferred tax assets and valuation allowance tax accounts and reviewing the deliverables of less experience staff and/or external staff

  • Responsible for ASC 740 income tax accounting for US State Current Tax Expense, including signoff to State Director

  • Accounting for multi-million dollar financial statement impact of US State DTAs related to acquisitions, divestitures, and internal restructurings. Prepare or review all aspects of state income tax compliance calculations including apportionment, adjustments, and state specific additions and subtractions

  • Research and apply state statutes and regulations to Pfizer's tax filings

  • Maintain accounting rollforwards for payable

  • Prepare or review all types of state income/franchise tax returns, including complex consolidated tax filings and returns with greater than $5M of annual cash tax payments

  • Review lower risk state income/franchise tax returns prepared by less experienced staff and/or external staff

  • Prepare or review state income tax incentives and report correctly on the tax return or application

  • Prepare and record the US state income tax return to provision analysis

  • Prepare accounting rollforwards for state payable accounts

  • Review/file extensions and prepare/file quarterly tax payments

  • Model/analyze legislative updates and company landscape changes, including accessing the impact on tax provision and compliance

  • Support change through adapting to new automation tools and technology.

  • Responsible for building cross functional relationships with stakeholders outside of Global Tax

  • Lead annual state tax modeling related to multiple distribution options used by Pfizer's Trade Group in contract negotiations with McKesson, Cardinal, and Amerisource

  • Advise senior tax leadership of opportunities and make recommendations to minimize cash tax associated with state income and franchise tax filings

  • Learn through continuing professional education and keeping abreast of significant current developments and new legislation within multistate taxation

Global Tax Environment

  • Promote and support an environment that focuses on inclusiveness where individuals' ideas are respected, valued and teamwork is promoted

State Tax Audit and Controversy

  • Provide support in the resolution of notices and in the completion of audit information documentation requests as required

  • Ensure current files are documented to reflect any changes in cash or attribute carryforward amounts resulting from notices

  • Ensure changes to cash or attributes are updated in DTA schedules and/or SIT payable account

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA or currently sitting for CPA exam preferred

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Tax or related discipline required

  • JD or Graduate degree in Accounting, Tax or related discipline preferred

  • 4+ years of financial or tax experience working in Big 4 Accounting and/or a large complex multinational organization, and/or supervisory experience with a large complex multinational

  • ASC 740 experience related to deferred tax assets preferred

  • Proficient in applying knowledge of domestic tax laws for proper presentation in US state tax returns and, where applicable, in the financial statements

  • Strong financial, analytical, accounting, and organizational skills

  • US tax compliance experience

  • US partnership tax compliance experience preferred

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Alteryx skills preferred

  • Demonstrates leadership, accountability, and the ability to work as part of a team

  • Timely identify, communicate, and offer issue resolution and make decisions with incomplete information

  • Excellent partnering and oral and written communication skills with colleagues in multiple jurisdictions as well as exceptional managerial and organizational skills

  • Ability to juggle multiple requests and adhere to tight timelines

  • Ability to work independently

  • OneSource Income Tax experience preferred

This role will partner internally with US Federal Tax, International Tax, Indirect Tax, Tax Planning, Audit, and other Global Tax groups, as well as, other teams outside of Global Tax, including Global Business Services and Finance.

This role also interacts with Pfizer's external auditors and with other external tax and third party outsource providers.

  • Has experience working in high pressure environments with the ability to multitask and make independent decisions as well as work towards tight deadlines

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be available to travel 5-10%, as needed.

  • Must be able to work in assigned Pfizer location 2-3 days per week or as needed by the business

  • Be able to work from time-to-time non-standard hours due to time zone differences and or business requirements

Work Location Assignment:Flexible

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,500.00 to $155,900.00.* In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.   • The annual base salary for this position in Tampa, FL ranges from $84,200.00 to $140,400.00.
