Through research programs funded by science and technology Research and Development (R&D) organizations within the U.S. Department of Defense, the research and development team in FAST Labs collaborate across the enterprise. On this team, you ll have the opportunity to create and develop advanced technology capabilities in the areas of advanced electronics, autonomy, cyber, electronic warfare, and sensors and processing.
We are looking for a strong technical and people leader to lead a group of R&D FPGA engineers as a people manager and a program discipline lead within the FAST Labs Business Area. You will be responsible for the execution of FPGA hardware engineering activities on programs supporting product lines within FAST labs. You will work with the Product Line Chief Research Engineering Leads, along with the leads of the other engineering disciplines to ensure program success.
As a FPGA Hardware Engineering Manager and Technical Lead in our FAST Labs business you will be a functional leader managing a group of FPGA and embedded hardware engineers and will make impacts in the following ways:
Have technical oversight of the execution of FPGA efforts on R&D efforts in FAST Labs. This includes properly staffing, following best design practices, attending design reviews and properly budgeting and statusing cost and schedule.
Support New Business capture through engineering cost estimates, risks and opportunity management.
Provide functional leadership with focus in the areas of effectively staffing programs, developing personnel through training and mentoring them in ways to improve their skill base and their application of those skills
Support research program team leads with execution of project needs as necessary
Provide functional expertise and consultation as needed (including budget and schedule)
Ensure company processes are being followed, support new business pursuits, technical project execution/leadership and process improvement
Develop mentor/training plans
Provide and maintain functional processes, procedures, and best practices
Meet Department budgets (Training, overhead, etc)
Collaboratively work with peers and Program Engineering Leads to Staff projects appropriately
Provide resources and tools required by team
Ensure appropriate expectations/goals are in place for employees
Communication flow down (Staff meetings)
Performance and compensation management
Ensure a culture of continuous improvement (lessons learned) is in place
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full-time on site . This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Typically, a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline and 10 years of related experience.
Active Secret DoD clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret clearance
Deep understanding of FPGA architecture and design tradeoffs
Previous experience in project leadership role or functional management
Experienced in all stages of FPGA development including requirements management, RTL design, verification, synthesis, timing analysis, lab bring up/validation
Experience working within a team of FPGA Design and Design Verification engineers
Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and motivate technical teams
Demonstrated ability to integrate and coordinate with other functions and customers
Desire to continuously improve engineering processes and standard
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience with modern engineering techniques, such as Model Based Engineering, Agile, Digital Engineering, etc.
Experience with HW/SW integration
2 years of engineering management or project leadership experience
Previous experience leading engineering team of 10 or more
Active Top Secret DoD clearance
Knowledge of test/support equipment development
Strong motivational leadership skill
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
